The Common Swift Butterfly typically refers to the butterfly species Pelopidas mathias, a widespread skipper butterfly found in Asia and parts of Africa. Small to medium-sized butterfly, with a wingspan of about 30–40 mm. Brown with small, pale, semi-transparent spots on the forewings. Pale brown with a slight greenish tinge and faint white spots. Found in a wide range of habitats, including grasslands, open forests, agricultural fields, and urban gardens. Known for its fast, darting flight close to the ground. Adults feed on nectar from a variety of flowers. Widely distributed in tropical and subtropical regions of Asia (including India, Southeast Asia, and China) and parts of Afric. Laid singly on host plants. Green with a cylindrical body, feeds on grasses such as rice, millets, and sugarcane.
