SOUND AS A COMPRESSION WAVE
SOUND AS A COMPRESSION WAVE
Sound wave is an example of longitudinal wave. When someone beast a drum sound is produced by the drum due to vibrate of its diaphragm. The rapid movement of the diaphragm produce disturbances in the air. These disturbance spread out in all direction. When the diaphragm moves outwards from its normal position it pushes the nearby air particles. This creates a high density region (high pressure zone) called compression as shown in. when the diaphragm moves inward from its normal position the air particles relax and spread out. This creates a region of low density (low pressure zone). This is called rarefaction. As the diaphragm continues to vibrate a series of alternate compression and rarefaction move out in the direction of sound waves.
SOUND WAVES CONTAIN A SERIES OF ALTERNATE COMPRESSION
