The Best Nepalese Momos In Örebro, Sweden
I have been living in Sweden for years, and Nepalese foods are some of my favourites. But I always miss the taste of the momos, which are a kind of dumpling that originated in Nepal. I have tried most places, but haven't found the authentic taste yet. But now, I finally found my favourite momo restaurant in Örebro!
Background
Momo has been around since the thirteenth century in Nepal. Momo was originally a Newari dish in the Kathmandu valley. It was later brought to Tibet, China, and even Japan by a Nepalese princess who married a Tibetan ruler in the late fifteenth century.
“Mome” means steam cooking in Newari, one of Nepal's oldest languages. 'Momo' is to Nepal what Biyrani is to Karachiites, and it can be found in every restaurant, hotel, and household in Kathmandu and other regions of the country.
If you've never had a Momo before, you're in for a real treat. These delicious dumplings are typically filled with either meat or vegetables, and then steamed or fried to perfection.
Personal Story
I am originally from Pakistan and moved to Kathmandu in 1996 for 4 years due to my father’s posting. I have always loved momos, ever since I was a little boy. Momo, to me, is like Mount Everest - one of Nepal's symbols that reminds me of my adolescence. Not only me, Momo is the favourite dish of all of my brothers, @shrazi @rosecane right? so my mother learned how to make momo and then after we got married she taught the wives of all four of us how to make momo. But even today, no one makes better momos than my mother. Last month when I went to Pakistan, my mother fed me momos from her hand.
My wife ( @nazneen-ansari ) had never tasted momos. But after my mother, if anyone makes delicious momos, it is my wife. Making momos at home is a very lengthy and laborious task.
She used to make Momos in a rice cooker.
When I moved to Sweden, I was disappointed to find that there were no Nepalese restaurants. A client of mine, Abid Khan's Indian restaurant was in town, and there was a Nepali guy working in his restaurant. Since Cumin Club is an Indian restaurant, momos are not included in its menu. But when Abid came to know about my favourite Nepalese food, he organised a momo party for us including some close friends.
Year 2013, I heard about BUDDHA NEPAL, one of the first Nepali restaurants that came to Stockholm with an aroma from Nepal and Tibet. It is located in Årsta. Their traditional dining room is worth a visit.
I've probably tried most places that have momo in Sweden, but haven't found the authentic taste. Sometimes it wasn't a good filling, some had no sauce and sometimes it wasn't even momo but dumplings.
Best Momos in Annapurna Restaurant in Örebro
Yesterday we were in Örebro, so I found a restaurant called Annapurna where there would be Nepalese momos. On the way there I called and placed an order for momo. Since it is made fresh, it was stated on the website that you must call and order 20 minutes before you go there.
First of all I want to mention the lovely royal decor and fantastic light and decorative restaurant. Comfortable chairs and tables even for large families.
Now for Momo, I didn't expect it to be momo according to my desire. But when they arrived on the plate and sauce on the side, I was shocked. Exactly as they should be and the sauce just as it should be. We chose chicken and vegetarian filling and both tasted incredibly good.
The filling was spicy and soft. The sauce was also what I have always craved. Even though it was strongly spiced, you didn't feel bad afterwards. I was so incredibly happy to find this place that I called my brother @rosecane to tell him about it. I have found my favourite place now and will definitely go here all the way from Stockholm just to eat momos.
The Restaurant
The momos at Annapurna are the best in town! They are made with fresh, high quality ingredients and are absolutely delicious. If you're ever in Örebro, be sure to stop by and try the momos!
If you're ever in Örebro, Sweden and are craving some Nepalese cuisine, then you have to check out The Annapurna Nepalese & Indian Restaurant. This place is known for their delicious momos, which are essentially dumplings filled with either chicken or vegetables. And trust me when we say that these momos are some of the best you'll ever have - they're perfectly cooked with a flavorful filling that will leave you wanting more. So if you're ever in Örebro, be sure to swing by The Restaurant for an unforgettable Nepalese dining experience.
Unique Features
There are many great things about the momo at this restaurant. For one, they use a traditional Nepalese recipe that has been passed down for generations. This gives the momo an authentic flavour that you can't find at other restaurants. Additionally, the momo are handmade and each one is unique. The restaurant also offers traditional Nepalese dipping (Chutney) to compliment the momo.

Ahhh that’s so sweet thank you and I don’t even come by so much. There is so much on hive and these days the time is limited hahahh. Hope the family is good and did you hear there is a hardfork on hive tomorrow?
Family is good, but @shrazi and @rosecane is out of reach because of internet is down in Pakistan, due to one big festival. Honestly, @shrazi guides me new thing on HIVE and as i said he is out of reach, so as a newbie on Hive it is difficult to explore myself. Can you please elaborate what is Hardfork? its sound like something related to food branch.
I read about the hardfork update. At first, I felt very embarrassed about my last comment, but I am also laughing at myself. 🤣
Hehe yes MOMO 🥟🥟 😋
We have some loveliest memories with this tasty/yummy MomO
Heh you found a good taste Momo there in Sweden and few months back Fawad also searched and ordered it here in Pakistan 🤣
Anyone can see our mad love to that #Nepali Dish called Momo 😍
@shrazi momos here are just like the ones we used to eat in Kathmandu - same taste, same texture, and same deliciousness. Didi made these momos with the same care and attention to detail as the momos you'll find in Kathmandu, and they taste just as good. And the best part? he momo sauce is particularly noteworthy - it's a perfect blend of sweet, sour and savory that will have your taste buds singing. The momo sauce is out of this world. Seriously, it's that good.
