Christmas markets in Stockholm 2022
It's Stockholm, the place to be when you're in Scandinavia. And whether it's for music festivals, Christmas markets, or cold winter evenings, the city is always bustling with life. But what do you need to know before you go to Christmas markets in Stockholm? The local newspaper Mitti Stockholm published a list of 25 Christmas markets in Stockholm 2022. However, we decided to stop by the Gamla Stan (Old Town) Christmas market since it is the most significant, well-known, and traditional Christmas market in Stockholm.
Christmas Market in Gamla Stan | Old Town
Christmas markets are a staple of the holiday season in Stockholm, and Gamla Stan is no exception. This central and oldest Christmas market in Stockholm is a must-visit for anyone in town during the festive season.
The market is packed with stalls selling everything from traditional Swedish Christmas decorations to handmade gifts and tasty treats.
Take your time to browse the wares on offer and enjoy some of the seasonal specialities on offer from the food stalls. With so much to see and do, the Gamla Stan Christmas market is the perfect place to start your festive season in Stockholm.
The market is open every day from 10am to 6pm, and on weekends it stays open until 7pm.
We Took Public Transport To The Christmas Market And It Was A Great Decision
It's getting colder and colder and Christmas is just around the corner. To make the most of the day, this season, we chose to travel by public transport to fully enjoy the day.
As Saturday was a very busy day with lots of people going out, it took us a while and some patience to get on board the train. But when we finally got there, it was worth it!
Why We Chose Public Transport Today?
We had a great time taking public transport to the Christmas market! It was easy, convenient, and we didn't have to worry about parking.
Plus, we saved money on gas and tolls. We would definitely do it again!
We've all been there – you're trying to get to the Christmas market and you can't find a parking spot. You circle around and around, getting more and more frustrated. Then you see a spot – but it's so far away from the market that you know you'll never find your way back to your car. You give up and go home, vowing never to try again.
But what if there was a better way? What if you could take public transport to the Christmas market and avoid all of the stresses of finding a parking spot? That's exactly what we did this year, and it was a great decision! Here's why:
First of all, public transport is much cheaper than driving. We saved money by taking the subway instead of our car.
Second, we didn't have to worry about finding a parking spot. We just came out right in front of the market and started shopping!
Third, taking public transport is better for the environment. We felt good knowing that we weren't contributing to traffic congestion or air pollution.
Overall, we had a great experience taking public transport to the Christmas market. If you're thinking about doing the same, we highly recommend it!
Gamla Stan to Kungshallen walk
After spending some time in the Christmas Market we walked towards Kungshallen. The walk was about 40 minutes, and it was a great way to see some of Stockholm’s most famous landmarks while getting into the holiday spirit.
Starting from Gamla Stan, we walked past the Royal Palace, where people were demonstrating against the regime in Iran.
And down towards Swedish Parliament House. From there, we continued towards Drottninggatan past the Café Schweizer.
The orange peels on the outside of the café are a good indication of how delicious the juice will be. Unfortunately, we didn't get a chance to taste it because of the crowd in the café. We then followed Drottninggatan towards Kungshallen, which was decorated with lights and Christmas trees.
Nobel Prize Concert 2022 | Konserthuset Stockholm
Today was Nobel Prize Day in Stockholm, and Hötorget square was covered with a fence and closed to the general public.
There was also a large police and security presence, with soldiers marching through the streets.
We ended our day eating dinner at Kungshallen.
It was a wonderful day out, and we're so glad we took public transport instead of driving. Not only did it save us money on parking, but it also meant that we could relax and enjoy the journey as well as the destination.
