Safe the penny
The last Easter period was a season of reflection for me due to what happened to my mom's neighbors which she narrated to me. The story taught me a great lesson.
Mr Ayodele works in a big company, he earns big and rented a very nice apartment in our neighborhood with his wife and three children. He has three cars and he looks rich. Where he works, there is this illiterate man from Oyo state that runs errands for him and over time Mr Ayodele has been kind to him. Sometimes he appreciates him by giving him money or by bringing food for him.
This other man is someone that has just a son, who stays with him in their rented apartment because his wife left him when the child was born and since then he has been the one taking care of his son. People see him as a poor man not knowing that this man loves investment and every penny he gets he invest it.
Some weeks to Easter the agent that Mr Ayodele rented the apartment from came to inform him that the landlord wants to have a meeting with the tenants to discuss somethings with them. They all have not meet the landlord before and because of this they were eager to meet him. Very early on that faithful day they saw a man alighted from a motorcycle and approached one of the tenants that he is the landlord and he wants all the tenants to gather to have a brief meeting.
The meeting has started by the time Mr Ayodele got there he greeted all of them and was shocked to see the Oyo man that runs errands for him seated. He confronted him that what is he doing in his house and the man told him he owns the house. I know you are imagining how Mr Ayodele will take this discovery, that was exactly what I was thinking too. I put myself in his shoes but couldn't come up with a better word to describe it than to say he saw shame face to face.
To continue with my story Mr Ayodele managed to finish the meeting and was angry with himself.
He asked the landlord after the meeting where he got the money to build such a house. The man answered and said he joined a cooperative society where he saves every penny even to the gifts he receives from people at the office and later took loan which he use to get the land and continued the process till he was able to build the house. He told him he spent 15 years to complete the house. He said he had started building another one from the money he is getting from their rent which he will soon complete.
This is a display of great wisdom to me, this man knew that if he pack to his house he will attract people's attention and moreso people that have been associating with him and helping him may not want to do so again. He might even lose his job. From what I heard, Mr Ayodele has packed out of the house last Monday. I Know that my mom will miss him because he plays a lot. After she shared the story with me I draw up some lessons.
- Never look down on anyone because you don't know who they really are.
- Embrace the habit of saving and investing because that is the lifestyle of billionaires.
In conclusion, nothing happens without a purpose, learn and move on.
Thanks for reading my post.
I have heard similar stories of people who become wealthy from humble means by wise investment and choices. The names may be different but story is the same regardless of ethnic and country.
I have heard stories of such many times but seeing it happened was surprising to me. Thanks for sharing that you heard something similar too.

We have a saying in my country that you should never judge a book by it's cover! Unfortunately, people do and at times, it will come back on them.
Two very wise lessons to take away from the story your mother shared. Thank you for sharing and have a lovely day!
That saying runs here too. Thanks for stopping by. Enjoy your day.
