Please Take NOTE - Respiratory Health

(Edited)

Hi everyone, welcome to my blog.
It's another weekend and I'm excited this morning to share with you one important thing that we often don't pay attention to. I know if you ask anybody on the road that what are the basic need of life? Most people will say food, clothing and shelter.
Oh! I'm not saying you are wrong. Infact, you are right, because that is what we were taught. But, I realized that even with the availability of these, some still struggle with good health. To me, I feel good health should be included in the above. Talking about health, a lot of things that causes illness are due to some factors that can be avoided.
Most times, we give attention to filling out stomach with food while some factors are not of relative importance. One of these factors is what I will be discussing with us in this post. Which is the cooking fuel.

While I was writing my thesis I did a comprehensive study on respiratory health and I discovered that in Nigeria the prevalence of respiratory infection is high(DHS, 2018/19)and according to WHO(2018), approximately 50 percent of the world population are being affected by respiratory infection. How does cooking fuel choice comes into this discovery is what I will be explaining in the paragraphs below.
Many feel so far they are taking adequate balance diet they are free from sickness. This is not absolutely true because the kind of cooking fuel you use in preparing your food also affects your health.
There are two major divisions of cooking fuels: clean and dirty fuel. The clean cooking fuel are regarded as clean because there is no emission of smoke in any form. Examples of these fuels include liquefied gas and electricity while the dirty cooking fuels are those fuels that emit smoke during the cause of usage. Examples are kerosene, coal, firewood and dungs.

Many household use dirty fuel because they are cheap and this is common in developing and under developed countries. Dirty fuels are readily available in our environment but are harmful to our health. Why?
The smoke emitted from these fuels are inhaled into our body and this causes respiratory infections which can lead to lung cancer, asthma, CPD, tuberculosis etc. The worst part of it is that children are mostly affected because they love to play around their mothers while cooking. In Nigeria, clean fuels are now extremely expensive and not readily available in some area, but I believe with determination we can switch gradually to using clean fuels. If switching is not possible it is advisable to use dirty fuels outdoor and not indoor.
I just want this to be something we hold in esteem too, lets fight for the safety of our lives and environment. As the Lord will be blessing you, try to switch to clean fuels to save one from unnecessary spending on respiratory infection by doing this we reduce the numbers of victims.
In summary, food is important likewise the choice of cooking fuels is very important too and switch to clean fuels if you can.
Thanks for reading my post. I wish you good health.

I want to compare the program implementation from last year and this year. Whether it has improved. What do you think would be a great title for it?

You can state it in this form
"an analysis of pre and post implementation of child's health initiative in your country"

I just used child's health initiative as an example, you can edit it to suite your taste.

By considering pre implementation of the program you will be able to capture what was in existence before the program and comparing it with the result you will get for this year it means the introduction of the program in the previous year has brought about whatever is your findings. I hope I was able to help in shaping your topic?

This is quite a good read, we should be intentional about our general well-being because it's said that health is wealth.
It's a fact that using dirty source fuels to cook means putting our health at risks of having respiratory problems, and the clean fuels are not within the reach of the common man especially those in rural areas.
We just hope to get the desired resources to afford the clean fuels.

You are right @luchyl, we won't give up, even this is suppose to be a project sponsored by the government. They can distribute gas cylinder to rural dwellers, erect gas stations in rural areas, subsidize the price of gas and give household access to electricity at cheap rates. I pray these becomes a reality one-day.

Did you say government should provide the resources and access to clean cooking fuels in the rural areas? Haba seems you're not in Nigeria again where the government robs its citizens and the bourgeoisie loot taxpayers money. My dear, this can never see the daylight in this our Naija.

Hmmm...I am in Nigeria ooo..
I know our government have put household welfarism in the bin. We shall continue to hope that things will take new shape one day. Seriously, Nigeria's case has violated most economic theories.

Well said. Poor people everywhere in the world deal with this issue, but it is not spoken of often enough. Even here in the United States at different points of history, this has been a common issue ... and, quiet as it is kept, air pollution is still a major problem because heavy industry is placed where the poor live.

Good day to you ma, I was even thinking it is not affecting people in the united state. The layman understanding of the united state is that it is a flourishing economy. I'm not too surprised because the bible says that the poor shall not cease in the land. I truly wish help can come for the poor. Air pollution is causing more harm day in day out. I pray our voice be heard and help will come one day. Thanks for stopping by.

The United States has poor areas comparable to what the layman here thinks other places in the world are like. The economy is flourishing in some ways, but what people do not realize is that millions of people are shut to the bottom. The term is "permanent underclass."

I sometimes use a Biolite wood burning grill to cook. The wood usually is seasoned dry cedar that is untreated with any preservatives. It burns amazingly clean and thorough and at the same time imbue a cedar aroma on the food that cooks on top. A local mill just within walking distance supplies this wood for free.
