Vintage Silver Highlights - Liberty Lobby 1995 Thomas Jefferson Round

Collection Highlights -

I'm back with another quote vintage piece of silver. I feel a little bad calling this particular one vintage considering it's only from 1995 but I chose to use the classic car definition of 20 years or older. This is 28 years so I'm going to call it vintage. The only downside to classifying this is vintage is realizing how much older I am in this particular piece of silver and just how vintage I am.

This piece is kind of interesting because of the research that I found. When I bought the round I liked it because the reverse Shield of the Liberty lobby is a great looking Shield and having anything Liberty focused is great on my silver. Also don't mind the fact that you're calling back to our forefathers and some of the key principles like sovereignty and Thomas jefferson.

The uncomfortable part was to find that the Liberty Robbie has a bit of a checkered past. While claiming to be a patriotic organization focusing on getting our country back to the principles in the Constitution, it appears that it was heavily connected with racist and white supremacist ideas. It appears the owner may have been a bit off the deep end and wrote several pamphlets or books promoting some of these views and then sold them to the Liberty lobby.

The mint appears to be slightly segmented from this, while under the same umbrella this mint wasn't formed until 1973 it was called The Liberty trust. It made a lot of silver rounds focusing on our founders and the original principles in the Constitution like courage, liberty, integrity and the like.

It looks like they made a Thomas Jefferson rounds from 1993 to 1995, 1998, and again in 2000 to 2001. This is a 1995 version although I believe that they were all the same. It looks like the mint folded due to lawsuits in 1971 when the parent company Liberty lobby went under.

All the info I found is that the following link

Obverse

A very clean and simplistic adverse design. A very nice portrait of Jefferson that looks very much like the Nichols with his name beneath him. And the highlight of the principle of sovereignty on the top of the round. Leaves a very clean field and simple message. While I don't typically like putting individuals on rounds and much prefer the old Barber and seated busts where it was not a past leader, I'm not opposed to putting some of our founding fathers on as long as we are celebrating the ideas of the Constitution that they pursued and not the man themselves

Reverse

Reverse has a really nice design. A big fan of the shield and a diagonal lines with criss cross. I think it leaves a really nice appeal for the eyes.

As I've always stated before I love it when you identify the mentor the company that minted it, as well as the year it makes it much easier for those of us who are looking at them 30 years later to try to be an internet sleuth and find some information.

Aside from all the drama of the parent company back in the day I do think I like the design of the Liberty love you shield, and the overall design of these coins leaving them very clean and not too busy or too fine of detail.

I have several George Washington... one of my favorite fathers, along with Abraham Lincoln and Ronal Reagan. I've shown them before. I also have the commemorative coin too.
