Outdoor Blog - Great Nights Kayaking and Fishing, Got a few small ones!
I've been out kayaking probably 10 of the last 14 days. I've had a lot of great times in the river in this trip was no exception. I went out right after work I stayed out until the sun went down all that fish to my kayak, I also just do a lot of exploring floating in peace and quiet usually in the back Waters so I'm all alone.
As you can see I'm all alone I do believe there was one other kayak who was out there for a while but we only stopped and chatted for a few minutes before we went our separate ways.
Small Bass - With a Battle Wound (Not From Me)
I thought this little guy, he hit really hard swim in the other way so I thought I had a monster at first, but it was just a young and who needs to put on some extra weight for me.
As you can see he looks like he has a small wound on the underside of him. That wound isn't for me, and was most likely from another fish or something else that I'm not quite sure. But it did look very fresh and raw.
Small Norther Pike #1
I like when these little Northern pikes hit. They don't know that they're small, and they don't know that they should just swim towards the kayak. They like to think that they're about 10 pounds heavier than they are and they have a whole lot of attitude. I think they have more head shakes and flops than a bass do.
I always wear this fish fillet glove when I land the fish in a kayak without a net. I'm always fearful of the rod having tension and the fish spitting The lure or me getting sliced by their gills as I try to hand it out of the water. I really think I need to start bringing my neck more often so I can leave the glove off.
Small Norther Pike #2
This was another fun one, about the same size as the first. It appears if this is the only size I can find in this location, even though I have heard rumors that there are some monsters hiding somewhere. There are some deep holes as deep as 30 plus feet, although much of this area is very shallow. I saw hundreds and thousands of bluegills, most of them tiny anywhere from thumb sized to a child's hand size. I don't think there's much fishing pressure here, so I think the big fish can eat all the game fish they want and there's a few big Northern swimming around being top dog I hope to catch one next time.
Sunset - Time to quit
When the sun is going down, I decided it was finally time to head back to the truck and pack it into the night. It is really hard to quit though when it's that beautiful and peaceful out. I sat around till dusk when the sun was down and the color was gone from the sky backed up the kayak and drove back home. Was another great evening, and I think I spent about 4 hours in the water.
Hopefully next time I get you a few bigger fish, that'll be a little more impressive.
This really snagged our attention, we've reshared it to our page.
