Free coins and coin collection addition.

It has been way to long since I have done much metal detecting or coin shopping. I had an oppertunity to met two friends at our LCS, and spend some time and money there before going out for lunch. It has been since precovid days since we were able to meet up.

Given that we all work remote, and no longer go to the same building, it takes more effort to plan these. Now that we started, I am setting them up at least monthly to keep them going. I needed to push to get back to the LCS and buy something.

My newest add to my collection

Honestly, I have no idea where I am with my collection. I have it up when silver was at $14 and focused on trying to buy some physical silver. After silver went up, I was spending money on Splinterlands, Rising Star and Dcity, and BTC. I didn't have much left for coins.

This shopping trip was purely based on what caught my eye. I LOVE barber coins. I think they usually have a great patina and look amazing. Its true, I can't afford the really nice examples that don't have a lot of wear, but my collection is less about completing some, and more about what I like to look at.

I don't even know if this is a duplicate or not yet, my record keeping is lost, and my storage is a mess. Someday I will get back to it... someday.

Metal Detecting - and a big hike

I finally got some time to go out detecting, and more than just the local parks and beach. While fun, its mostly track and stuff that was dropped a year or two ago. I still like going, and they are perfect places to go with the kids.

I like to go up into the hiking trails, and the bluffs where you know kids have been going to part for 70 years. While I won't find any thing ancient, and I will always find a ton of trash, I can also find some older coins here and there.

I managed to have a really good 3 hours, especially given it was probably closer to 2+ hours of hiking and only an hour of detecting. The trails I was hitting were older trails, no longer on the map and starting to get overgrown. While I can still make it through, Iwill wait for fall to have it die back before going the same path again.

Lets look at what I found in $0.58!

While I did find a 1960 and 1964, the real gem was this 1958 - D Wheat Cent. Its in great shape considering it should have been in the ground for a VERY long time... it looks much better than the 190 and 1964 coins and lets not even talk about the stuff made after 2010...

It still has some of that great red cent glow. Clearly its was buried, in the ground and is not in perfect condition, but look at the reverse. Its got full lines all the way up. Considering it was buried in dirt and rocks and I dug it out with a sharp shovel.

I think I will put this in a flip, label it, and then add it to my jar. I have kept everything I have ever found and hope to fill it up some day.
