Tutorial on Passive Earning: HP Delegations and 2nd Layer Tokens
Hive is a very diverse community filled with different sub communities, folds and gatherings.
When I first came into hive, my original ideas was that it was a place to write, blog, post and earn.
My first posts were about anime in The Anime Realm community, then a few months on and off Stem Social before learning more on writing and polishing my skills in The Inkwell.
At first, I thought that the only way to earn was by votes and comments, its not until a few months later that I learned about the passive earning from delegations and not too long ago from now did I learn about the earnings from 2nd Layer Tokens.
I'm an onboarder and a few of my students have reached the threshold Hive Power Amount (I myself chose) that they can delegate, earn passively and still be able to continue on their normal hive activities.
So I decided to create this little tutorial to teach them and any others who may need to learn all about passive earning.
Passive Earning On Hive
Passive Earning is one of the best kind of earnings. Just sitting down, doing exactly nothing and watching the money roll in daily, weekly, or whatever timeframe that has been set.
On hive, there are numerous accounts who are on the passive scheme. They won't post or come online for days, yet their account, HP and wallet is constantly growing.
On hive, there are two major way's to passively earn;
- Delegations
- Holding/Staking of Tokens.
In this tutorial, I'm going to talk on these two ways, mention those that I've heard of and I'm involved in.
1. Delegations.
Delegations is the process of lending some of your tokens to a user.
Its primary use was to for onboarders to help the new accounts they've on boarded so they wouldn't be stranded.
In hive, there are numerous tokens that can be delegated, but the most common delegated token is the HP.
- Hive Power Delegations
I'm sure almost everyone who's on hive knows about this. Yet the way to earn from this can be an open secret that still isn't open enough.
Most communities and curation platforms take Hive Power Delegations and in return sends back liquid hive.
The amount of hive sent to an account is brought down to a percentage dependent on the amount of Hive Power delegated.
In actuality, there's a lot of complicated maths involved but the dummed up version is that..
The more you delegate, the more you earn.
Most communities send hive back as rewards for delegation, but there are a select few that send back some tokens.
A good example of that is leofinance.
Delegation to @leo.voter gives you a daily payout of the $LEO token.
Leofinance is a major contributor and stakeholder of the hive community, so amassing $LEO tokens comes with its own perks. A good example is some frequent visits of your posts with curation from @leo.voter
Delegations are just a gift that keeps giving, I have quite a number of accounts I've delegated to. Some for hive, some for tokens, some in hopes of upvotes, some because I genuinely like the project and most a mixture of some of the reasons above.
Although for enquiring accounts, the accounts that do reward hive in exchange for delegation that I know of are;
Then those accounts that give out other tokens are...
- @brofi = $BRO token
- @legionsupport = $LGN token
- @stickupcurator = $LGN token
- @eds.voter = $EDS token
Delegations are an easy way to start earning passively, the rewards are constantly flowing as long as your delegation is on.
To delegate is easy on Hive Keychain.
I'm using the android version but it should be similar to those on Desktop and PC.
It can be done in just 3 simple steps.
i. Open Your Hive Keychain Wallet and Click on Hive Power (HP)
ii. Click on Hive Delegation
iii. Write the account name and the amount of HP to delegate.
Note: Be sure of the account name you're inputting because cancellation of a delegation takes 5 days!!
When you're done with that, you can just sit down, relax, and watch the rewards rolling in.
2. 2nd Layer Tokens
2nd Layer tokens or Layer 2 tokens in crypto are tokens that operate untop another existing Blockchain, rather than having their own blockchain.
These tokens depend and utilize the blockchains security, scalability and functionality while also bringing additional features and value to the Blockchain.
On Hive, 2nd Layer Tokens are rampant and in use everywhere. You can't scroll through 3 posts without coming across it in one way or another.
Most 2nd Layer Tokens are from games, some from influential communities, other's from witnesses and ambitious folks, it's quite easy to mint a token. (So I've heard)
Although I'm not here to list all 2nd Layer Tokens, I'm just here to list the ones that is know which gives passive rewards and how to invest in them.
There are four major ways to get a 2nd Layer token in your wallet.
I. Using tags to get them as rewards on your post.
This is a method that most people are ignorant of. You would notice some people's posts and would understand the full power of tags and topics.
My posts have some default tags, some for farming tokens, others in hope of fishing for curation.
#pimp, #proofofbrain or (#pob), #creativecoin, #vyb, #bro, #cine and so many more are used to farm their respective tokens.
II. Buying from Tribaldex
Each token has its own market on tribaldex where it can be bought or sold for hive/swap.hive
III. Swapping
This is a rather new method that's (as far as I know) is only inclusive to users of Hive Keychain.
In this method, you can swap hive for tokens and/or other tokens for tokens.
IV. Delegations of hive to some accounts.
This is mostly for the the tokens earned by individuals, witnesses and some games.
Delegations of hive to their accounts makes them give you passive rewards on their tokens. The $EDS, $LEO, $BRO, $DBOND, $DUO & $ZING tokens are examples of tokens that can be earned from delegation.
Like I said, these tokens add extra value to the Blockchain, most of them are for games, others are for fun, then there's the one we are interested in for this post.
Passive Earning Tokens
These are tokens that reward users who hold them. The rewards could be either hive, more tokens, or curation.
I know of quite a few, but would talk about the easiest to stake at the moment.
i. $SIM.
This is the token of the hive game dcity. Once it was a big shot, but due to numerous things and over pumping, the token value dropped considerably.
Holding the token pays you daily hive dividends. The token is crazy cheap as 1 hive can give you 2-3 thousand sim (based on current market rate).
Sadly, due to the abundance of the Sim token and how cheap it is, one has to gather almost a million to get something reasonable.
I believe that SIM would rise again, hence this is a token I'm gathering as frequently as I can.
It can be gotten by buying it from Tribaldex or swapping on keychain.
ii. $BBH (Bitcoin Backed Hive)
This is the token of @bradleyarrow and it's just wonderful.
Still relatively cheap but climbing in price as it's now at the rate of 1 Hive for slightly above 450 BBH tokens.
This token weekly pays out not only hive but numerous other tokens including $LEO, $ALIVE, $PIZZA and others..
It can be gotten from Tribaldex and swapping on Keychain.
iii. $EDS
Another multi reward token like $BBH.
I don't know the price of this token but I can say the rewards are dope.
@eddieearner of the #saturdaysavers community has a lot of plans and has accomplished quite a lot with it.
Holding it brings in multitoken drips, Hive, $LEO, $BBH, $ALIVE and the rest.
Also, holding it quite a particular sum earns your a curation upvote.
iv. $BRO, $LGN & $RUG
These three tokens are related by the same creator @raymondspeaks.
The $BRO token is a bit on the costly side now, although holding it gives you $LGN and holding over 10 BRO brings an upvote to your posts.
You can get $BRO by buying on Tribaldex or delegating Hive Power to @brofi
$LGN is fairly cheaper than $BRO but has made some moves indicating a pump soon. Holding $LGN rewards you in Hive.
As noted earlier before, $LGN can be gotten by buying from tribaldex or delegating to either @legionsupport or @stickupcurator
$RUG, unfortunately is a token that I know the least of. I do know that holding it brings multiple rewards but as it's the newest of the three tokens. It isn't quite as popular.
It is available on Tribaldex.
iv. $DUO
This is one of the newest tokens available. A reward coin for the Hive Onboarding Community made by @bulliontools, @bitcoinman and a few others...
This coin has quickly gained waves in just two months of its launch and it's pretty much great.
It brings hive dividends and curation rewards, plus some nice upvotes.
For now it's available on tribaldex but soon they'll start taking in delegations..
Another notable thing is their DUO Raffle which they've had going on since this month.
To get involved, all you have to do is send Hive to @steembasicincome and tag @duo-curator in the memo to get your ticket bought with HSBI.
Any amount of tickets can be bought but 1 ticket costs 1 Hive each.
You could also make a post about it like I've done and get 10 tickets added on.
The prize is three shares of 50 $DUO tokens each and well, everyone involved is a bit hopeful...
There are numerous other tokens and to list them all would make this post stupendously long.
These ones that I've listed though are the ones I'm heavily stacking, the ones I have tested and I'm sure of their passive income.
A small tutorial on how to use tribaldex would be posted later, but considering how long it took me to make this post, y'all newbies may have to figure that out on your own😭😂.
I'll have to tag my folks personally invited into hive though.. @omokhafue, @oluchi31, @rachie05 (a really new newbie).
I hope this would make concepts I've already once tried explaining to you look easier and to any other newbie or anyone just ignorant of this. Hope it helps you get the most financially of your hive experience ✨🔥❤️
All Token Images used are gotten from different sources on Hive, they are not mine and are used just for enlightenment purposes.

This token thing seems really fun fr! Although some things sound germane. I'll definitely try it out and hope to sit back according to you and watch the money roll in😂.

Great tutorial on how to delegate. I for one like to have no more than 50% of my HP delegated, ideally no more than a third, as I like to try and build my little vote so I can reward posts I personally like with as much as possible.
I have just done some juggling and pulled out of bro and lgn and will put into hive-naija.
The great thing is we can do what we like with our HP 😀
