Three Tune Tuesday - Deep Forest
Hello, music lovers! π΅
It's a Tuesday, so it's time for #threetunetuesday and a chance to share something I'm listening to.
My last post here was a month ago, and continuing with the music, it's time for some memories.
Today, it's hot and dry, creating a real summer atmosphere. I feel like finding a shady spot and listening to Deep Forest, a band that may have been forgotten, but is worth remembering. This band is the project of two French musicians, Michel Sanchez and Γric Mouquet. They started working together in 1992 and have won several music awards, including the Grammy in 1994 and the Best World Music Album in 1995. As far as I know, they still hold the record for the most commercially successful French album of 1995, with over 10 million copies sold.
In addition to their music albums, they have also composed film scores for movies such as Robert Altman's "PrΓͺt-Γ -Porter", Kathryn Bigelow's "Strange Days", and others.
With their unique style, which includes collaborations with various traditional and ethnic groups and a combination of modern electronic elements, they have had a significant impact on the development of world music.
In other words, they have influenced the so-called world-music genre, also known as ethno-electronica.
For those of you who are not (yet) familiar with #threetunetuesday or #ttt - these are tags you need to set when you post.
It's a music initiative started by @ablaze, and with his words, the jist is as follows:
Every Tuesday I'm going to share 3 songs that I like to listen to and I invite your feedback in the comments below. Better still, why not have a blast of your own Three Tune Tuesday and mention me in the post and I'll come and find the post and upvote it. If you could also use #threetunetuesday tag that would be great, as that is what I use when sifting through all the entries every Wednesday. It'll be a sweet way for us all to discover new music. You'll also be in with a chance of winning the reward.
I have chosen a few songs that, in my opinion, best represent the duo.
D33p For3st - Hunt1ng
It's from their first album 'Deep Forest', from 1992. Album is also known as a 'World Mix'. It's dedicated to the Efe Pygmies, who live in the African jungles of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Three and a half million copies of this album were sold, and part of the profits went to the Pygmy Fund, a California-based organization committed to helping the natives of central Africa cope with environmental threats to their homeland.
Deep Forest - Marta's Song
This song is from their second album, Boheme, from 1995. Musically, the album is influenced by traditional Eastern European folk tradition, mainly by Gypses who live there. The original text is 'Istenem Istenem vajon mi lelt engem (My God, what happened with me)' - Hungarian folksong from the Gyimes region, a part of Transylvania.
Similar variations of this traditional song can also be found in Bulgaria, Romania, and Serbia.
Deep Forest β- Elemental
The song Elemental features Beverly Jo Scott as a singer, and it's from their fourth album, 2002's Music Detected. The album continues to blend ethno and electronica with a touch of rock. Music critics say it is their most mature and musically complex album, incorporating various world music styles. However, it has not achieved significant commercial success.
And a bonus, an official video for their biggest hit, Sweet Lullaby, from the first album.
Deep Forest - Sweet Lullaby
That's all for today, thank you for your attention. I hope today's selection was interesting.
This is my 50th post for #threetunetuesday, which @ablaze started. I hope what I'm sharing is enjoyable for others, too, because then it makes sense.

The songs seem like they have sugar in themπ
They are very interesting
Yes, you could say that they are sweet.
I'm not a fan of world music, even if electronic. But I'm always surprised thinking how someone can imagine and then create such songs, combining sounds so different together and make it actually enjoyable.
Maybe because I have a rock approach to songwriting and I don't understand such workflow as theirs π
I don't have a musical education, apart from the compulsory one at school, but I listen to various music, from electronica, jazz, punk, and some extreme noise genres. This band is important to me because it was the first to mix ethno with electronica. There were others, of course, like Peter Gabriel, who worked a lot on that, and there's a lot of that in modern jazz. If it's music that makes something move in my head, I don't know what, actually, that's good music for me. ππΆ
Right now, I'm listening to dark noise jazz ambient π
I'm not used to listen to ambient music, but when I'm going to do it, I'll remember about this dark jazz music, it's really good π
By the way, I'm posting a format about the darker genres of music. I know more about metal and gothic and electronic music but it would be nice if someone would contribute to the format by sharing what is "dark music" for them.
