New Tunes 16.9.2022
Hello music lovers! π΅π§π΅
I'm floating on the sounds, tones, chords, music, melodies, and harmonies constantly ringing in my ears this week. Out of this sonic mess, I have picked out a few songs that have caught my attention to the point that, after listening to them a few times, I actually liked them and remembered them. And the performers too.
Who knows, maybe a #newtunes suggestion for the weekend will land in your ears, too?
And if you don't like something, feel free to skip it :) π

NAV - Demons in my Cup
NAV, the Canadian rapper has a new album "Demons Are Protected By Angels" out. Sometimes more rebellious than now, he has had a few hits and quite a following in the past. With this album, he is trying to continue in that direction. But these are different times, if there is no trap there is no rap. He has realized that too for fans of the genre.
YUNGBLUD - Tissues
The internationally acclaimed and award-winning YUNGBLUD have released their third studio album. The release has already received overwhelming critical acclaim around the world and is presented alongside the music video for "Tissues", the single in which YUNGBLUD samples "Close To Me", the iconic song by The Cure.
He said, 'I thought if I could somehow convince Robert Smith to let me use this song, this would be it ... I just wanted to make an album of music that my friends and I wanted to listen to - and with that song, me and my friends grown-up. Can I use a sample? After a few days, the answer came: "You can use anything, it's OK, regards Robert."
Yeat - Canβt stop it
Another rapper here, with so-called rage rap. Noah Smith, known as Yeat, is coming up with a new album that is sure to take him even higher than he is already because Yeat is one of the leading celebrities on the Tik Tok network with a huge fan and follower base.
Rage rap? I don't know, it sounds like a kind of trap to me with its distinct and melodic vocals, but it's a bit more psychedelic and hypnotic. That's more what my kids listen to ...
Andrija & Matoristi - Dominator
Former mayor of Kutina, Croatia, and singer-songwriter Andrija Rudic has released the first single Dominator for his soon-to-be-released new album "The Best of The Rude". The video is somewhat reminiscent of Kraftwerk's Man the Machine, which is part of a world where man is not a priority, but at some point nevertheless begins to free himself from the constraints of the priorities of everyday life and routine.
The number of motorbikes could make the video very appealing to bikers, but otherwise, Dominator is a rhythm&blues/punk crossover track.
Haiku Garden - Loose Contacts
Haiku Garden, a shoegaze/neo-psychedelic band from Ljubljana whose expression is dominated by loud and noisy guitar music with a touch of pop, released their second album "Loose Contacts / Tense Present" at the beginning of the summer. Haiku Garden's new release superbly combines influences from shoegaze, post-punk, krautrock, and noise.
It is a story about a time when relationships between people change and the contradictions between them deepen. The seemingly (post-)apocalyptic times we live in, the battles each individual wages with the environment and with himself, and their potentially catastrophic outcome. Destruction is not always a bad thing, however, because sometimes it's necessary to give birth to something new - say the Haiku Garden.
btw: If all goes to plan, I'm going to the local club tomorrow to hear them and record them.
Lamb of God - Grayscale
Lamb of God has released a new song from their upcoming album Omens. The album "Lamb Of God", released in 2020, was named the best Hard Rock album of the year by Rolling Stone and NME. Well, this track, Grayscale, is very niche hard rock, I would rather put it in a more metal genre. But it will no doubt attract the attention of fans.
Katie Kim - Feeding On The Metals
Katie Kim is a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Dublin, but behind that name for about fifteen years is actually Katie Sullivan, who used to form the rock band Dae Kim with musician and producer John Murphy. Murphy is a well-known figure on the music scene today, especially as the producer of the second Cavalcade album by black midi innovators. Murphy has co-produced many of Katie Kim's albums, including the current Hour of the Ox.
Katie Kim has a very attractive deep-toned voice, shifting between quiet, graceful, gentle, erotic, and dreamy vocals, which, however flexible, are always aimed directly at the listener's ear. With the interplay of thunderous bass, synthesizer tones, piano inserts, haunting string accompaniment, harmonica, and beautiful vocals, it creates a wide-open and cinematic atmosphere. Recommended.
Catherine Graindorge feat. Iggy Pop - The Dictator
And for the end, what caught my attention was the collaboration between Catherine Graindorge, the Belgian violinist, composer, and actress who composed the music, and Iggy Pop, the godfather of punk, who wrote the lyrics for The Dictator and sang, or instead recited it. A spontaneous tale of caution in volatile times. Very hypnotic, sublime, and full of sadness. Iggy is still a top player, despite his age. I highly recommend it.
ugh... there's a mess ... I need to change something ... this year ... maybe π
... anyway, if you're curious just click the dates and listen to songs ...
