Fish Market In Split
Hello, Hivers! ๐
I like fish. I like them on my plate even more. And since I'm still under the impression of HiveFest, here's a short story from Split.
While looking for the Meลกtroviฤ Gallery in Split, where the presentations were on the first day, I found a way on Google Maps from the old town to the seaside and another twenty-minute walk.
It was a sunny and beautiful day, and I didn't feel like looking for a bus or a taxi, so I just went for a walk.
Still in the old center, in a small square, but about 100 meters from the Riva promenade on the seafront, I saw a building where people were coming out with bags of fish (I don't have a picture of the entrance) and I said I'd go and see what they have to offer, I had more than enough time. As Split is quite a big city, I am sure this is not the only fish market.
It was just after 7am. Best time to buy fresh fish, usually brought directly from the nets by the fishermen. I was surprised because there was no particular crowd.
The fish on offer was quite solid, and the prices were reasonable. Cod, small ones at โฌ6 a kilo, bigger ones at โฌ8.
Sardines and mackerels are my favorites.
To avoid any inconvenience, I first asked each seller if I could take photos. They were all very friendly, of course, of course, you can take pictures. You can also buy something if you want!
I would love to buy something, but I don't have anywhere in my room to prepare them ๐ :)
And then a bit bigger. Turbots, gobies, squids, and even rays were on offer.
Scorpionfish, black seabream, shrimps.
Sea bass, which are most likely farmed.
An excellent selection for lovers of seafood, and finally, another swordfish and tuna steak :)
All fresh, straight from the sea, caught early in the morning. I was almost getting hungry, but it was time to move on.
Thank you for your attention.
It was another Split story.

Here we have this saying: The fish does the same in the gut that hung (in Spanish fish rhymes with hung).
I donโt like fish but I know itโs healthier than meat, so you are in the right way. ๐
I like sardines and mackerel, and we usually buy fish once a week.
that first picture is pretty scary, I believe if I come across a fish like that under the water I might get a heart attack ๐ฅฒ๐ ๐ ๐ ๐คญ๐คญ๐คญ๐๐ฆ๐โ
But all this market looks cool, I like this fresh food ๐๐๐๐โ๐ฆ
It's an angler or frogfish, which is very ugly in view, but they said it's a specialty and very delicious fish. Unfortunately, I have never tasted it, so I can't say anything. ๐
Oh .... I must try this fish , but yes it looks very ugly ๐ ๐ .... so my all hope is this when I eat it :)))

I try see what food they make from this in YouTube :))) in appearance it look like a big lump of jelly ๐ ๐ ๐ฑ

I love fish and am envious of people who are able to buy it fresh. I live over 1000 miles from the sea, and the fish in the markets here have been frozen and the selection is limited.
Great tour of the fish market!
Yes, it's a difference in taste if the fish is fresh or frozen. I live about 20 km from the sea, the fishmarket in my town is small, but still, we can buy fresh, but only in the morning, after noon everything is usually sold .
Do you know what they say in Split?
โThe best pieces are already at the ยปDolacยซ in Zagreb before the first fish reaches our market.โ
I've been to both Split and Zagreb. Zagreb has the widest choice โ but it also has the dodgy dealers with the most dubious sales practices.๐ฎ๐
Yes, I agree. Some fresh fish go directly to Zagreb (just as it does here in Ljubljana), but not all of it.
On Pag, I go to ล imune for fish because two fishing boats arrive there at 8 am and if you're quick, they can't hide the best fish for the caterers. But I like sardines and mackerel best anyway, but they are not in the top category...
But guaranteed without plastic or other rubbish in the stomach and between the gills.๐
I'm not a big fan of eating fish, but I have my favorites, sardines are one of them. Everything looks very fresh and clean in that place, it's worth shopping there. Thanks for sharing ๐ (the first picture gave me scared)๐
Yeah, I intentionally post the first photo :)
