Beer Tasting: Tektonik OL57 Bruno & Lupulus Hopera
Hello, beer tasters! 🍻 😎 🍻
The weather here is very unstable. It rains insanely for ten minutes, then the sun shines brightly for ten minutes, and then it goes on for a couple of hours. Of course, I know the solution :)
To beer OR not to beer? But that's not the issue at all. The oldest contest in the Hive blockchain, the 269th thirsty #beersaturday, is here.
Obviously, I'm not going to be without beer today. 😁
I have a challenge ahead of me, two heavily chilled beers, one Belgian, one Slovenian. Which one will reign supreme in my fridge? The first? The second? Both? Or neither? We'll soon see what this is all about.
As for Hive Fest, unfortunately, I won't be there. Although I really wanted to go live once, I will, due to commitments in my work, I'll be in Prague that week.
I'll comfort myself with Prague beers :)
Tektonik OL57 Bruno NEIPA
Brewed by Tektonik Craft Brewery, Ljubljana, Slovenia. Tektonik is one of the oldest, if not the oldest Slovenian craft brewery.
The OL57 designation stands for Open League, i.e. beer with limited distribution because it's essentially experimental. It's a pasteurized, unfiltered cloudy pale beer.
Bottle 0.33 l, alcohol 5.0% ABV, 35 IBU. It's New England IPA style, American IPA with pronounced fruity flavors.
What do the Master Brewers say?
Bruno is an example of a modern New England IPA with a quite specific wheat malt and oat flakes content. The cloudy, milky-yellow body is soft and oily and hides an interesting aroma reminiscent of the popular pina colada cocktail. The main character is given by the aforementioned BRU-1 hop, which evokes the flavor of pineapple, and of course by the Sabro hop, which rounds off the whole with the unmistakable aroma of coconut. The aftertaste also sneaks in some citrus and tropical fruit notes. The bitterness is mild and the alcohol moderate. Bruno can catch your eye quickly, so don't miss it.
The beer is cloudy yellow in color, with a considerable and creamy head. It smells of hops. The first sip goes down the throat smoothly.
The hop bitterness appears immediately but does not increase nor is it too dominant. After that come tropical fruit flavors, grapefruit, and even coconut, which I've never tasted in any beer before.
In the aftertaste, the fruity nuances disappear, but the hop bitterness remains for quite some time.
Fresh and drinkable beer, just right for a rainy, steamy, and hot Saturday afternoon.
It's available in local shops, but otherwise, I'm in Ljubljana at least once a week, so it's time to visit their pub.
That's the weather today
Rainbow!
Now I have to follow it to the end to find the treasure. 😎 😁
Lupulus Hopera
Brewed by Lupulus, Courtil, Belgium.
Bottle, 0.35 l, alcohol 6.0 ABV, 37 IBU. It's Belgian Ale style, which means golden in color, with subtle fruity-spicy Belgian yeast and lager like character.
What do the Master Brewers say? Not much.
A dry beer with a pronounced but controlled bitterness, a strong nose, and a huge range of hop aromas.
I haven't tried any beers from this brewery before, so this is a first :)
The beer is a cloudy golden yellow color, there's a lot of head and it's still quite persistent, holding for quite some time. It smells of fresh herbs. It goes down the throat very smoothly.
The hop bitterness is predominant but not too intense, the malt sweetness is not perceptible, and a little spicy, but there are aromas of pine, honey, dried fruit, and grapefruit.
In the aftertaste, everything slowly disappears, leaving only the bitterness, which lingers for a while.
This beer is also fresh and drinkable, a bit like a lager but with a more pronounced bitterness and fruity flavors. Very good.
I would have had this in the fridge too but unfortunately, it's not available in local shops, only online ordering through distributors. Too bad.
And what am I listening to as I write this and taste beers? Nothing from my yesterday #newtunes post :)
I came across one very chill loop (three hours!), very suitable for background music when you're doing something else.
