Hello, beer tasters! 🍻 😎 🍻

There is no end in sight to the heatwave. You have to wait until about 6 p.m. to do any work outside in the garden, and even then you're soaking wet just to get moving.

I've finished chopping firewood and got home, it's 9 o'clock and you won't believe it, just in time for the 264th #beersaturday! Two cold beers waiting for me in the fridge, music on the speakers and I'm ready for today's #beertasting!

Luckily there's no music event nearby today (I was at a rock concert yesterday), so I'm going to enjoy one Irish and one German beer in peace.

Let's go, first the one with less alcohol.
Why this? I read somewhere and once had a beer tasting that started like this, apparently, that's the rule... and we ended up with some triple Belgian beer that was over 10% ABV ...

O'Hara's Irish Craft Lager

Brewed by O'Hara's Brewery (Carlow Brewing Company), Bagenalstown, Ireland.
Bottle, 0.5 l, alcohol 4.5% ABV, 32 IBU. That's lager as the name implies.

What do the Master Brewers say?

The beer is a traditional lager style that has been craft brewed at O’Hara’s for maximum flavor. Hopped several times to create a unique blend of textures and aromas, it's higher in bitterness than mainstream lagers and delivers a unique bite with a clean balanced finish.
The hop profile is tailored to suit the craft beer drinker and the bitterness is clean and intense. The malty body pays tribute to traditional European lagers and the combination of noble hops, specialty malts, and a classic lager yeast strain allows the esters and hop aromas to combine and balance perfectly.

The beer is light yellow in colour, the head is solid, creamy and persistent. It smells of hops.
A sip goes smoothly down the throat, at first I feel the sweetness and maltiness, which later gives way to the bitterness of the hops that take over. A little spiciness on the tongue.
Maybe a hint of citrus, but very little. The bitterness of the hops and the sweetness of the malt remains in the aftertaste for a while, in roughly equal proportions.

Fresh and very drinkable. Unlike German and Czech lagers, I find the bitterness of the hops and the sweetness of the malt more pronounced.

I would quite like to have it in the fridge. And not one, but several bottles.
I'll see what I can do because you have to order it online, it's not on sale here ... Maybe I'll take it to the seaside with me?

Schneider Weisse Tap 05 - Hopfenweisse Weizendoppelbock

Brewed by Schneider Weisse G. Schneider & Sohn, Kelheim, Bavaria, Germany.

Bottle, 0.5 l, alcohol 8.2% ABV, 40 IBU. It's a Wheat Ale - India / Hopfenweisse ... ugh ... wheat beer with more hops and fewer yeast flavors than classic wheat beers. It's a special seasonal beer.

What do the Master Brewers say?

TAP5 Meine Hopfenweisse shows how far wheat beer can go. This specialty was created by the crazy idea of a transatlantic brewing project between Garrett Oliver (brewmaster at Brooklyn Brewery, New York) and our brewmaster Hans-Peter Drexler.
Tap 5 is a hoppy firework, a shiny golden, slightly reddish strong wheat doppelbock, with
an intense floral aroma that reminds of tropical fruit and pineapple. An exotic fruity sweetness meets with fireworks of hops. This extreme wheat beer shows how far wheat beer taste can go and pairs very well with spicy food.
Ingredients: water, wheat malt (50%), barley malt (50%), hops (Hallertau Tradition, Saphir), yeast.

Interesting. A sort of combination of wheat beer and American Pale Ale. I've never tried anything like that before.

The beer is cloudy yellow in color, there is not much head but it is creamy and persistent. It smells of fresh bananas and hops.

The first sip goes down the throat smoothly, with a pronounced bitterness and banana taste. The bitterness is constant and other tropical fruit flavors come to the fore - orange, pineapple, peach.

In the mouth, I feel as if I am eating fruit and hops, the bitterness of which also dominates the aftertaste for some time.

That's really something. I've never had a beer like this before. Fresh, drinkable, it feels more like a dessert, more like food than a drink. I MUST have this beer in the fridge!

I always say I've never had the best beer in my life, that I'll sometime in the future, but this is the top as far as my understanding of beer is concerned, maybe the future has caught up with me?

All in all, I recommend this beer to anyone who puts something on this drink, hats off to these Bavarians and New Yorkers for making such a combination! 👏😎
