Beer Tasting: Italian Grape Ale & Axiom Greek Fire
Hello, beer lovers! π» π π»
How are you? There is nothing special going on here. With family, work, autumn, humidity, winter, and snow in the waiting, the crypto is kind of stagnant, the Hive the same.
While we wait for the bull trend, we can focus on other things. For example, beer. :) π
I have two interesting samples on my desk today. Beers, of course. One Italian, the other Czech. I think they will be just right for 282nd #beersaturday.
First, the one with less alcohol.
Coop Italian Grape Ale
Brewed by Coop Italia, Casalecchio Di Reno, Emilia-Romagna, Italy.
Bottle, 0.5 L, alcohol 6.5% ABV. That's fruit-flavored beer, ale or lager, brewed with fruit but still recognizable as a beer. IGA or Italian Grape Ale is a typical example of ale flavored with white grapes.
What do the Master Brewers say?
Elegant and refined beer with a straw-yellow color. A fruity-tasting beer with honeyed and herbaceous notes. Ingredients: water, barley malt (21.5%), Marche IGT Passerina wine (11%), wheat malt, sugar, hops, yeast.
Hm... best to be careful, because Coop is one of the major Italian retail chains and I'm not sure they brew beer, but I couldn't find out who does it for them. Anyway, we'll see what it is.
Hazy yellow color, with a lot of foam that slowly disappears. It has no particular smell. A sip goes smoothly down the throat, in the mouth I first feel the sweetness of the malt, a discreet bitterness but not of hops, I would rather say of grapes, the taste of young white wine predominates.
In the aftertaste, everything quickly disappears.
I don't know what to say. A very drinkable and fresh drink, definitely not a cyder, but I would only conditionally call it a beer. Given that it's brewed, and that the bottle says it's craft beer, then it's beer.
But to me, it tastes most like a young wine, that is, one that hasn't even been fermented yet and can be very sneaky, so I wouldn't have another one...
Let's keep going!
Beer meme? Why not!
Axiom Greek Fire Imperial Stout
Brewed by Axiom Brewery, ProstΔjov, Olomouc Region, Czech Republic.
Bottle, 0.33 l, alcohol 12.5% ABV, 60 IBU. The beer is Imperial Stout or Double-Stout style, which means roast burnt, dark brown or black colored with intensive and complex flavors of dark fruits, coffee or chocolate, and very strong alcohol.
What do the Master Brewers say?
We realized that we needed a monster. And this is it. Big, brash, pitch black, and in your face. But like all monsters, it has a soft spot. And that is dark Chocolate!
Greek Fire is the legendary combustible mixture consisting of crude petroleum, sulfur, and oil that could not be extinguished and offered a decisive advantage to the naval forces of the Byzantine Empire. So now think of a thick, oily, imperial stout, through which light cannot pass, that lights a fire in oneβs belly with its strong alcohol content. And then the association becomes clear.
Czech lagers and pilsners are above average without a doubt, but I'm not so sure about all the other styles because I don't have any good experience.
But let's face it, this brewery started in 2018 and most of its beers have very high ratings on ratebeer.com.
The beer is very dark, black in colour, with little head. It smells of prunes. It goes down the throat smoothly, first I taste the bitterness of heavily roasted, almost burnt malt, then the sweetness of prunes and bitter dark chocolate appear in the mouth.
Slightly bitter from the alcohol, the bitterness of the roasted malt lingers in the aftertaste for a long time.
I had to eat a piece of fake pizza I baked for dinner (first picture) to make the bitterness disappear :) π
Very complex and distinct flavors. A great brew! This beer is more of an aperitif or digestif than a liqueur, you can't drink it to thirst!
I can compare it with Bewog Hagel, for example.
I would like to have this in my fridge as an example of Double Stout. A good Stout is, in my opinion, the hardest thing to brew, so I will try to taste some other beers from this brewery. If I succeed, because I got this as a gift, they don't sell it here.
And what am I listening to as I taste beers and write this? Something from the last #newtunes post. So-called Math or Constructivist rock.

Surely you felt relaxed while at work with your most favorite Italian Grape Ale and Axiom Greek Fire, my friend. I have not tasted it since it is not available on my side but if I were to taste it, I would love to have the Italian Grape Ale, because it is flavored I so love flavored beers most especially in Apple flavors. Have more happy beer Saturdays ahead and keep safe, my friend.
Thanks for stopping by. As I can say both are extreme. π !BEER
