My Approach to the Rise of the Commons Ruleset
We have three rulesets in effect: Keep Your Distance, Rise of the Commons and Fog of War:
RULESET: Rise of the Commons
Description:
Only common and rare units may be used in battles.
Summoners are unaffected by this rule.
The Strategy
Rise of the commons ruleset means that you have to use a strategy that only uses common and rare monsters so all of the epic and legendary monsters are not available. This limits the strategies we can use. In addition to the rise of the commons ruleset we have another limiting ruleset which is Keep your Distance - that means that melee monster are also out. Leaving only magic or ranged attackers.
My strategy here is to defend against magic attacks. In order to counter magic the best summoner is Immortalis. In addition to countering magic I am expecting Immortalis on the opposing side as well. That is the reason I chose to go with range-attack heavy strategy.
In front I am placing Chaos Agent which can avoid both magic and ranged attacks particularly if the attackers are slow. If my opponent misses Chaos Agent has a valuable backfire ability which would give damage back to the attackers.
I placed Regal Peryton in second position for his speed and armor-shattering ability he got from Immortalis. As this is the fastest monster on my team it should fire first shattering armor and delivering magic damage to open up the enemy unit to my ranged damage dealers which will not have to worry about armor anymore.
In the next position I placed Goblin Psychic for his healing and silence abilities which both come in very handy. It also comes with affliction ability to stop tank heal.
Next I placed Xenith Archer to deliver ranged damage and serve as a meat shield with his base health for only two mana.
After that I place an important ranged damage dealer with poison and scavenge abilities: Venari Seedsmith.
And finally in the last position I placed Supply Runner as a support monster and ranged damage dealer. Supply runner boosts the speed of all friendly monsters and also boosts their health. With base ranged damage of three this is a good card to play in the last position.
The Summoner
Immortalis is a legendary airdrop summoner from the Chaos Legion set. This is my usual go to summoner for magic only or countering magic battles. It takes away one health point, gives all the friendly monsters void and equips them with armor shattering ability.
1st Slot - Tank Monster
Chaos Agent is usually a great low mana tank. Here I am hoping for some misses and backfires if my opponent picks slow monsters
2nd Slot - High Speed Magic Attacking Monster
Regal Peryton is a great monster to pick with Immortalis, because of his high speed this monster usually fires first delivering magic damage and shattering armor on the opponent.
3rd Slot - Tank Heal Monster
Goblin Psychic is important card in this strategy because he nerfs all enemy magic attacking monsters and heals our tank.
4th Slot - Ranged Attacking Monster
Xenith Archer is a neutral monster from the Chaos Legion Core set. This rare monster provides two ranged damage and five health points for only two mana and is another great monster to use in our battle.
5th Slot - Main Damage Dealer Monster
Venari Seedsmith is an important card in this play. He is our main damage dealer with a ranged attack of four. He also has poison and scavenge abilities.
6th Slot - Ranged Damage Dealing Support Monster
Supply Runner is a great support card as it give our monsters speed and health boost and also comes with a three ranged damage.
THE BATTLE
Our opponent has a very impressive lineup lead by a Rebellion summoner with a Rebellion promo card as a tank and a maxed out rebellion weapons training card. Let's see how our lowly Chaos Legion lineup will do against this expensive team...
In the first round we unfortunately lost our Chaos Agent and their promo tank has survived. That was definitely some luck as our speed boosted Chaos Agent was hit by both ranged attackers without triggering backfire and it was not healed by our tank healer.
In the second round we did much better taking out their tank and weapons training monster in the second position.
Round three was also good for us as we took out their secondary tank and landed poison on their riftwatcher card.
And in round four it became clear that we won this battle:
And in round five we won the battle not letting our opponent take a single shot
