Flying Spying & Getting High in Jamaica
Hail to the Hive!
We’ve had no power all day but luckily I had both I pads and all my drone batteries charged so at least I was able to get a bit of practice flying in. My only issue in the back garden is that it has a lot of trees and there’s only a slight gap to navigate take off and landing.
So I have to be very careful and not get too cocky as I make sure not to clip any of the overhead branches.
I’ve done this several times now but I am careful not to get too overconfident but once through the gap in the foliage….
Clear Skies!
Beautiful views all around and I can even look down and see the local lads playing football on the local football pitch. A few of them were put off their game and were looking up as the heard either a really big mosquito or it was a drone.
And I’m fairly certain this is the local water treatment plant but as I pan up there’s some much more beautiful water….
The Caribbean!
Nobody seemed particularly excited when I remarked I could see the sea from here but I guess if you grow up on a Caribbean island you kind of take it for granted. I personally thought it was pretty cool to ne able to view it from where I was stood inland in the backyard.
The view of the housing scheme nestled in the valley with the mountains in the background was also pretty cool. Taking a step back and viewing things from this perspective really gives you pause for thought. This really is a beautiful island.
Once the battery warning starts beeping I turn the drone around and swiftly make my return. I don’t bother with the return to home button as I am still taking photos on the way back as I know I have ample time and I like navigating myself.
And I’m getting familiar with the streets and houses here.
Once over the back yard you can see how small the opening between the trees is. That’s me in blue inside the red circle. Time to concentrate.
Slowly slowly. It’s very easy to make a mistake and get disoriented and go left instead of right forgetting which way the drone is facing.
But down she comes. Come to Papa.
Once she was through and down I was very happy. Yup that’s my happy face haha. I always look pissed off when I’m concentrating but trust me thats me overjoyed at another safe flight completed
When we have drone, looks like we can see the entire world :) I love aerial view over there
I'm sure it was fun activity out there
I just love my toys innit 😂
From what you've shown, Jamaica is a beautiful island.
It's great to see overhead shots of rural areas that are indeed, never a far distance from the coast.
Sweet, sweet Jamaica!

There definitely is some pretty countryside near your vacation spot! 💚 Once your drone is aloft, how far away can you fly it before it begins to lose your signal? And what is the average flight time before having to bring 'er home for a recharge?
I get about 20 mins flight out of a bettery and I have 3 batteries. The range og the drone would you believe is 10km but I don’t go further than 1.5 usually ( too scared 😱).
oh, my! Was scrolling back through your blog to revisit your drone posts, and it has been a whole year since you were flying your drone in Jamaica! Where has the time flown? Away with the drone, perhaps! 🙀 LOL
When we were in PowerhouseCreatives (PHC) together, you were on Discord. Do you still use it? Someone asked me if there was a drone enthusiast on Hive & Discord, and I thought of you immediately! I think he just has a quick question. Let me know if you have a minute to get a DM from him, please! Thanks!
hey @thekittygirl .I am on discord too. Does your friend know there is a Drone community on Hive also?
I don't know if he does or not. I didn't even know that! So many communities, so little time! 😂
I know, sometimes when I'm browsing on Hive I find ones I had no clue existed

Love those pics of the drone in flight with the skin and colored props. I've never dressed mine up, but that looks awesome!
That was @diveratt . I borrowed his mini 2 and left my mavic 2 back in the uk. He sould be on MTV pimp my drone 🤣
Amazing captures from your drone! Just like from the plane 😍💙
Yeah i love that view from a plane when you see the checkerboard of fields and plots etc. feels nice and has your mind wondering anout all the lives, all the people doing whatever it is they might be doing at that time
Checkerboard of fields! That’s a nice description of it. Yes, looks a little romantic too ☺️💙
