Distant Cooling Towers - Monomad Challenge

Hail to the Hive!

As much as I adore slowly cruising through the beautiful English countryside at the slow, slow narrowboat pace I still love the industrial backdrop that often rears its head.

In this case it was the looming cooling towers from a powerstation looking ominous in the distance.

I have passed these many times on the train between Leicester and Nottingham over the years but have never spied them from the waterways and due to the extremely slow speed of narrowboat propulsion, I had ample time to take in the view and get a few shots as we slowly chugged ever closer and then slowly away.

There is a Marina here where many folks actually live on board as well as store their vessels. I can’t help wondering why you would choose a spot that has these huge industrial edifices imposing their presence on your views. But I guess they are also pretty cool and the surrounding area is still very, very nice.

It is also an extremely good location with access to nearby motorways and rail connections , so I guess there is that also.

And lets not forget the canals and rivers. This is on a canal section of the river Soar and very close to the River Trent also. I did ask myself if I could moor here for an extended time and I had a very long time to take it all in and think about it as we chugged by.

And I decided I could. All in all it still had a nice atmosphere and I didn’t think the cooling towers spoiled it in fact in a weird way I think they gave the whole place a bit of personality. Or maybe Im a bit odd like that, but I kinda liked the feel of the moorings w8th both countryside and interesting industrial view.

Love a bit of #monomad 😜
