The story of two minds

avatar

Once upon a time, there were two people named Sadbuddhi and Durbuddhi. Sadbuddhi (translated - good thought) was very straightforward, kind, and respected by all in his village. Durbuddhi(translated - as crooked thought) was always devious, cunning, jealous, and angry.

Sadbuddhi worked as a farmer during the day and in the evening, he used to make rotis and curry and sell it from his roadside stall. Durbuddhi always used to ask him how much profit he made and was eager to know what made the customers frequent the stall to eat more rotis and the curry that Sadbuddhi and his wife prepared. Sadbuddhi also used to prepare other snacks and each dish was a hit that even people from other villages also used to come to eat.

Durbuddhi could not stand the success and fame of Sadbuddhi. He told his wife that he would need her help as he was also going to start a food stall and become even more successful than Sadbuddhi.

So, Durbuddhi went to the village office and requested permission to sell from a roadside stall. He soon inaugurated his stall and even put up banners saying that he would give extra rotis and curry as an offer. Hearing this, people started to buy from him because of the offer. Sadbuddhi had a bad sale that evening because all the customers flocked to Durbuddhi's stall but he was not angry. He wrapped up all the food, went to the nearby orphanage, and donated the food to the children. After seeing them eat with happiness, he decided to donate food whenever he could afford it.

Durbuddhi soon stopped the offers and people once again went to Sadbuddhi's stall because his curries tasted better and the rotis were so soft. Durbuddhi had used stale flour and cheaply bought vegetables that were near rotting and so the curries had caused food poisoning as well. Of course, he was a durbuddhi and his greed for money had made him buy cheap stuff to make a huge profit.

Durbuddhi realized that he could not defeat Sadbuddhi. So, he decided to somehow harm him. Jealousy had taken control of his mind and he was not able to forget the success story of his friend. All this took a toll on his health and he fell ill. His wife had left him and he was all alone. Sadbuddhi visited him and saw that Durbuddhi had not eaten for a few days. He helped him get fresh and fed him with his own hands and also brought the doctor. Durbuddhi turned a new leaf and thanked his friend. Sadbuddhi gave him work and they both lived well.

The moral of the story - it is no use being jealous, angry, cunning, and selfish. Life has a way of teaching lessons and even if evil may seem to have a win at first, eventually, all will be lost. So, it is better to love and share with others and also behave with respect towards all.

I hope you liked this story. If so, please share.
