Sanctus Vicar: The Backline Cleanse We Need
Note: All battles were played manually and without the use of any Battle Helper
Hello there! @saydie here, playing Splinterlands everyday!
Earlier in July, a proposal was passed by the community that is to hire Steem Monsters Corp., the company that runs Splinterlands to develop 5 promo card sale events for 600M DEC where all the sales will going to be sent in the @sps.dao. Each of the five sales event comes with two cards that is only purchasable with DEC and can only be bought during the duration of the event. And just recently, the event has finally start, ending the first phase with 113M DEC which is not that far from the original goal which is to sold 120M DEC from card sales.
As to participate with the event, I also try to purchase some of the promo cards and is currently within the top 500 leaderboard which are to received a title once the event has ended. I was also planning to participate on the following phase to protect my position but anyways, I want to showcase my battle with Sanctus Vicar, the card that I purchased on the Hall of Legends shop for this week's Community Engagement Challenge but before that, let us take a look on this card first.
Sanctus Vicar

Sanctus Vicar was a 6- mana range splinter with a new ability called Cleanse Rearguard at level 1. This ability allows for it to remove all negative status effects on backline units, works on a similar manner as Triage and this ability does not target only one card but all cards with negative status effects which extends up to the frontline tank. Aside from it, it also has Cleanse at level 4 and Reflection Shield at level 8. As per Splintercards data, there was only a total of 11,861 bcx of this card that was printed and if we remove the gold foil, that means there will be only 101 max level card for regular foil.
- Strengths:
Sanctur Vicar Strength lies to its ability to remove negative status effects on an ally unit whether it was on the back or the front which is specially important during Noxious Fumes ruleset. At the same time, its Reflection Shield will allow it to be immune on Return Fire and Blast damage.
- Weakness:
Being it a range unit, it's main weakness lies with its inability to attack when it goes to the first position unless, it was played under particular ruleset.
- Rulesets:
Close Range | Range attacks may be used in the first position in battles. |
Evens Stevens | Only Monsters with even Mana costs may be used in battles. |
Explosive Weaponry | All Monsters have the Blast ability. |
Keep Your Distance | Monsters with Melee attack may not be used in battles. |
Noxious Fumes | All Monsters start the battle Poisoned. |
My Battle
Conditions | Description |
---|---|
Diamond League Modern Format | 35 Mana Cap Available Elements: Fire, Water , Life, Earth, Death |
Tis But Scratches | All monsters have the Cripple ability. |
Noxious Fumes | All Monsters start the battle Poisoned. |
Target Practice | All Range and Magic attack Monsters have the Snipe ability. |
For quite a while now, I have been playing my main account once again after I stopped playing it when league caps where removed and with it, I was able to use Sanctus Vicar. As you can see, One of the rulesets in this battle were Noxious Fumes, just the perfect opportunity for this card to show its powers. Also, I placed it in the last position. so that, it can first use Cleanse Rearguard on itself. That way, it won't die from Poison and can continue on cleansing the the rest of my team.
Fast forward to round 3, we can see that all of my units are now free from Poison and although some of my units were lost, I clearly now have the upper hand in this battle. With Quora Towershed already down to 4 health and his Pelacor Mercenary not being able to pass through the defense of Grimbardun Smith.
Finally, the battle ends in round 8. With Pelacor Mercenary having no way to damage my team, the battle has just ends in one-sided bullying until he gets Affliction preventing him to use Heal. The outcome of this battle could be much different if not for Sanctus Vicar.

Closing
Cleanse Rearguard is the one ability that many of the Splinterlands players has been wanting for a long time and it was finally added in the game with the arrival of Sanctus Vicar which adds for more interesting battles. Not to mention, it was a dual element which means it can be used not only with both Fire and Water Teams, but also on any dual element summoners that uses posses any of this element for a variety of lineups.
