Meet my Local Band: Slapshock- Three Tune Tuesday

avatar

Hello there! @saydie here with my another #threetunetuesday playlist which is a project created by @ablaze.

Last week I choose 3 songs from different bands that gains their popularity during 2000's for my List and you can say that aside from the song that they made are good, the one thing that made them popular was that they all signed their record label to Victory Records because it has the financial backing to market their songs but you would not hear anything good about this company as they were alleged on not paying their bands properly. After some time, these 3 bands left the record label and some even filed a lawsuit to the company and ended up with A Day to Remember to won a $ 4 million lawsuit.

For this week's list, I have songs from the Filipino metal band called Slappshock which are heavily influenced by American Eastcoast Rap and has early musical style compared to Korn but later shifted to metalcore. The band was one among the most successful bands in the Philippines and was able to tour with bands like Sepultura, Trivium, Lamb of God and many more and was able to tour on many countries on Asia, Australia and North America.

Slapshock Agent Orange

The 1st song on the list was Agent Orange from their first album 4th Degree Burn released in 1999. This becomes one of the many cult- favorite track and rock anthem of the youth during that time. This is one of the songs that introduced Rap metal in the country.

"Everyday is like a war we're going through,
Agent orange man yo is coming after you"

Agent Orange is a herbicide used to make the leaves of plant fall so that people cannot hide behind threes and plants during WWII.

Slapshock Ft. Apl.de.ap- The Crown

For the 2nd song, I have the The Crown collaborated with the the Filipino- American rapper Apl.de.ap of the Hip Hop group Black Eyed Peas for their 2014 album Night Owls. The song was about the social structure where the rich gets richer while the poor gets poorer and even if this situation is causing people's lives, the rich who has "the crown" doesn't even bat an eye to them.

The rich get richer and the poor can't eat
We living in the whirl wind try to compete
No equality for my people in the streets
That's why you gonna open your eyes
And realize stay in disguise
And they're telling us lies
Don't be surprise when the wise stand up
If you're fed up with the shit then put your hands up

Slapshock- Cariño Brutal

For the last song on this list, I have the Cariño Brutal from thier 2009 album of the same name and was one of the heaviest and most critically acclaimed song of the band. The song was about a person who was being tortured because of his love as he continue to long for it despite causing him so much pain and suffering. The music video was a collection of clips from their US tour.

And that was it for this week's #threetunetuesday post. Sad to say, the band has broken up on 2020 followed by it's vocalist committing suicide due to the depression he suffers due to the lockdowns and restrictions on Covid which prevents the band on doing concerts and tours and become a big loss for the Philippine music industry.

See you until next time!

They have lots of really great song so it's very hard to choose. Maybe I'll do a part 2 at some time.
