Bridging the divide - Mountains and metropolis
The gusts of cool breeze, the rustling of leaves, colorful flowers, and the soft sound of flutes from the distant mountain tops, houses made of raw mud and wood, people's attire, songs, music, food, lifestyle, lifestyle, and cities are searching for this. Every year many tourists come to the village in search of peace and quiet to forget their busy and crowded lives for some time.
While coming to the village, these tourists bring with them a lot of noise, alcohol, and drugs and while leaving, what we hear from them is that the village is not the same as before. It seems as if they know how villages used to be in the past.
Villages are no longer the same as before, you might have heard people saying this or you might have said so yourself. I have seen villages running towards cities and cities coming towards villages in search of villages. The road that comes from the city to the village is the same road that goes from the village to the city. That's why city people will keep coming to villages and that's why village people will be attracted by the shining buildings of cities.
The village I am talking about today is in Uttarakhand, the difficult conditions of life that people are facing while living in the mountains are not known to the cities.
There are many villages in the mountains where even today you cannot come out of your house after 5 pm because of wild animals. Many times villages become victims of wild animals. Since it is a terraced farm, one gets very little from hard work. Many villages depend on rainwater. Even if someone falls ill, people die at home due to lack of medical treatment. If the crop gets damaged or is eaten by an animal, there is no way to compensate for it. How to protect yourself in cold, snowy places, there are no special facilities to avoid floods, cloud bursts, and many other types of disasters. Amidst all this, the government has not made any significant contribution to improving the life of the mountains.
Amidst all this, tourists come and want the village not to change, and the villagers should not migrate to the city. Without understanding and without living the life of the mountains. There are many villages in the mountains where no one lives anymore.
People from villages are moving towards cities and people from cities are moving to foreign countries. And if cities do not change villages, then they should move from cities to villages and not to foreign countries. The skills and education that people are learning in the city will have to be imparted in the villages. If the city can do this then the villages will blossom. Next time when you come to the village, do not just criticize, but sit with the village people, talk, and understand the experiences of the villages, and their difficulties so that the roads from the cities do not go to the villages and the roads from the villages to the cities, but There should be an exchange of support and empathy for each other.
