Decentralization is at the heart of WEB3 and many blockchain-based protocols. Another sector being impacted and empowered by decentralization is DePIN, which has been a hot topic on this blog since early 2024. I expect the DePIN sector to experience enormous growth in the coming years. It has so many favorable dynamics, that it’s difficult not to be bullish. Identifying a few key winners will of course be a trump card. However, it’s difficult to know which projects are going to succeed, or even survive.

That’s where diversification enters the picture. The greater your exposure, the better your chances. Another DePIN project similar to Grass and Gradient Network is Dawn Network. These three projects are all built on Solana and offer a bandwidth-sharing model that incentivizes nodes to remain online. Dawn is building a decentralized mesh network on Solana. This brings down home Internet costs dramatically and unlocks new opportunities for operators.

Decentralized wireless networks are expanding at an alarming rate! DePIN is set to become a $3.5 trillion sector by 2028, the current market cap of the entire Crypto space. Decentralization is the key proponent and driving force of the Machine Economy and multiple projects are attempting to gain their piece of the pie.

Solana-Based DePIN

Dawn has an enormous following on X and surpasses many of its competitors. Like Grass and many other DePIN projects mentioned in this blog, Dawn operates via a browser extension. It’s a quick and simple installation process that requires zero technical know-how. Once installed, the extension runs in the background mining points which will later be converted to DAWN tokens on the Solana chain.

Outside of Grass, I favor Gradient Network and Nodepay as the top Solana bandwidth-sharing applications. However, one never knows, and as I have said, extensive exposure is the best way to secure future profitability. Mobile bandwidth-sharing alternatives include projects like UpRock. In the case of UpRock, users are already mining tokens that can be traded on Jupiter and other exchanges.

Dawn is another option or alternative for DePIN enthusiasts. Identifying which projects are going to perform well is a challenge. However, community support is often a good metric to observe. I am running a Dawn node as it could be one of the better performers. The team is also in the public eye, which is a vote of confidence regarding a Crypto project. Dawn can also be downloaded on multiple devices by a single account.
