My First Money Earning: My Hardwork and Happiness
I was born into a rich and influential family that can provide everything that I need. I had shares with banks and recognized establishments on my name even before I knew what my name was. But, Death strikes and everything grew wings and fly away, leaving me with nothing.
Mr. Kalu is my father and a well known Transporter of his time. Everyone knows him and he helped them with free services and hospitality. In the line of his duty, his car loses break and ran into a tree, leaving his only occupant, my driver half-death. His health deteriorate more faster as our whole family income does. We were left with nothing when he dies because my uncles and family members decided it will be right to sold off everything, my father owes, even his cars and houses and share the money evenly among his three wives and their children to settle family feud of century to come. The idea seems right but the process was corrupted and those involved enriched themselves and ripped us off our livelihood.
Due to our precarious situation, my mother assumed the bread winner of our family while we, her kids are her partners for the family business to grow. She is a travel merchant and goes into hinterlands to get her goods, mostly agricultural products to be supplied to the city dwellers. We are always at shops in the morning but afternoon will be spent in the market where we hawk several food crops bought by my mother to be resold to the public.
As times goes by, we becoming a skillful sale master with great words of convincing our customers and selling any kind of trade with ease. We are good calculators, never short-change or miss our money counts. Our family income grew as our business flourished. Everyone in the market knows us and patronize us kindly.
With better skills and support, there come a revolution which my junior brother leads. He wants to be independent and own his trade so that all the money, he makes will be his. It did not seem right to my mother at first but her flogging can't stop my courageous brother. He set out for his business, but still sleep and eat from my mother. What's that? But my mother tolerate and support him. After some days of his independence, he is richer and happily with his money than our "family money idea". Immediately, I joined his quest and start my own business.
At first, I become a retailer with cake shop, then switched to water vendor. Hawking of water maybe in cans and sachets is a thriving business for many youth in our Nigerian market. We are there with bags of this cold and chilled water for the thirsty ones in the market. With very cheap prices, it sells like wild fire and we make more sales when the weather is drier. With huge money of over 2000 naria($1.1) daily, I am more satisfied and happiness. I feel like my own boss and deserves my profits as my reward of daily hard work.
Although the daily tasks during the sale was never easy and simple for young ones like us but we have to bear it. Running after cars and crossing traffic is the heightened cases of our days. We stressed ourselves out for that pain to be joyful when we cash out daily. We get financial training from our mother as we make good decisions. I use most of our income for my schooling. I paid for my tuition fees and books evn my younger ones. Our mother is so relieved when these financial burden are lifted. My mother focuses more on our feeding, health and other necessities. The money, my first earnings makes great impact on me. I'm very grateful for those training, love and caring with great service.

They did the right thing selling the property because war is brewing already since it is a polygamous family. If only they shared it right and didn’t embezzle the money …
What matters the most is that you are now financially independent
