You Can Overcome Laziness [Part 2/3]

One of the things that have hampered the advancement of a lot of people is laziness to take actions. Of course, without taking actions, there will not be the required result. In our last episode, we discussed about ways by which one can overcome laziness and we shall continue here. One thing to know is that it is possible to overcome laziness but it will require you to take necessary steps and we shall be taking a look at the steps here.

1. Remove distractions

Most times, one thing that trigger laziness is distraction. For example, someone can be behind their TV set watching movie series for all day and forgetting what they need to do. So if you must overcome laziness, you have to identify the things that normally distract you and then deal with them. Distractions can come in so many ways, like TV, playing games, surfing social media. You will be surprised that, at this age, some youths can be on social media for hours and abandoning what they need to do or procrastinating it, thereby wasting their time and leading to laziness.

There was a time I was almost taken over by social media. Even when I wake up from bed, the first thing I normally checked was my phone for social media messages (Twitter, Facebook, etc). When it started to tell on me, I had to take a decision to limit the time I spend there. To do this, I disabled notifications for many of my social media platforms, and I now have more time to do a lot of other things apart from just surfing the social media. So to overcome laziness, one needs to deal with distraction. Even if you cannot effectively stop it, at least minimise it and it will be a great step in the right direction.

2. Have a mentor, a coach, or someone to hold you accountable

One of the reasons why people do as they like is because there is no one to hold them accountable. But if you have someone to checkup on you and hold you accountable for your actions and inactions, you will be up on your feet and do the right thing. In your quest to overcome laziness, it is important for you to find someone that you will relate your goals with and who will hold you accountable for your actions towards your dreams. This will help to motivate and spur you to take actions against laziness. For example, when you have a coach or a motivator that will direct you, it can serve as an accountability to you and will make you take necessary actions.

However, one should also understand that for you to get someone that will spur and motivate you to actions, you must prove yourself worthy of having such motivator. A motivator or someone that will hold you accountable may even come from within your family; your parents, relatives, etc or from outside, like your bosses, a professional coach, etc. The purpose of this is to give you the required push that you need to keep yourself on track. Note this, with the right push, it will not be difficult to take steps.

3. Have a growth mentality

Your mentality goes a long way to determine your actions. Thinking growth and positivity will help you to see that you have incredible ability within you and that growth is possible if you will take relevant and prompt actions. More so, it is worthy to note that hard work, discipline, dedication are all fundamental results of having growth mentality. Even though you are to aim for perfection, but your mindset should first be conditioned for progress and growth first before going for perfection.

It is by going for growth and progress that perfection comes. When you keep repeating a particular strategy over and again, it will master you and then it will lead you towards perfection. So when you think and act progress, it will set a precedence for you and then will make you eager to act more and by that, laziness will be constantly overcome.
