The Motivation To Go After Customers In Your Business

avatar

For every business to thrive and succeed, there is a need for customer patronages. In fact, without the patronages from customers, then the business does not have a future. You have to know that you are the one to sell your brand and your business to your potential customers for them to know that you are in business and then patronise you. No matter how good your products are, if people do not know about it, then how will they buy from you?

One of the major motivators, as a business person, to go after customers is to maximise sales and profits. When you invest into a business, it is not for you alone to use, you need others to patronise you, so that you will realise profits and the business will move. There are some very good businesses that have not seen the light of the day, not because they do not have good products and services, but because people do not know about them. This is why marketing is very necessary if you want to let others know what you are doing. There is nowhere in a business that you can outgrown constant marketing strategies. In fact, from the infancy of the business and as long as the business is still active, then marketing should be an integral part of it.

When I visited my aunt some years back during one of our semester breaks when I was in school, something adorable happened. I spent about 2 months with her and I normally cut my hair every week; on Saturdays. This means that I had about 8 haircuts during my stay there. Each time, I normally trekked from the estate to the major road for the haircut, which was about 20 mins walk to-and-fro. I thought that was the closest barbering salon because it drew my attention when I was coming to my aunt's house - they had a big signpost at the front of the salon. It was after 1 month and a few days that I got to find out that there was actually a barbering salon right inside the estate and I did know about it, even though it was relatively new.

The spot was actually nice but he lacked marketing skills and it made a lot of people not aware of it. The exposure was not there because he did not invest in marketing; no signpost, nothing. It was not surprising that he did not have much customers as the other one at the road. After I visited his shop for a cut, I was so impressed at the haircut and he even did it better than the other person. He had very nice skills but lacked exposure. I had to advise him on some necessary marketing skills that he needed to pay attention to, including advertising it in his social media, etc. He listened and did that. I was happy that before I left my aunt's place, he was almost taking over the entire estate with his customer base.

It is worthy to note that in business, there is no substitute to marketing. In this era, there are lots of options and ease when it comes to marketing. Take this instance, right from the comfort of your home, you can connect and share your business advert with a wide variety of people. In fact, a lot of people have leveraged on the social media technologies like Facebook, X, Instagram, WhatsApp, etc, to market their business. You will be surprised the kind of audience you can reach when you leverage on the power of the Internet. Remember that you do not expect your customers to be the ones to reach out to you until you have reached them. If they do not know about your business, then it will be impossible for them to patronise you.

However, you have to understand that you should know the kind of audience that your business targets, so that you will streamline your marketing strategies to meet them, and not just progressing in futility. When you have created your own niche and then know who your potential customers are, it will make marketing easy, because you already know what they want and how to reach them. So the first step towards creating a marketing strategy that works is to know your targeted customers. The truth is that not every single person will be your customer, so know who you are potentially targeting. Note that you may not get them at first, but do not relent. Marketing is not a once-and-for-all thing in a business but a continuous process as long you still want the business to be sustained.

Peace on y'all
