Standing On The Side Of The Truth
It does not matter how long a lie has lasted and in which form it has taken, the truth will surely prevail someday. You may find yourself in a tight corner that may want to prompt you to tell a lie as an easy way out, but you should not yield to it. It may look like an easy way out, but it will come back to deliver its consequences. You feel better, more at ease, and more peaceful when you have said the truth than when you are telling lies. So for the sake of your own self, you have to know that the only option is to tell the truth.
Standing on the side of the truth has plenty advantages that we will look at. The first one is that it makes you more valuable and people will rate you more. If you deal with someone and you later discover that all what they told you were lies, how will you rate the person? Obviously the regards you had for the person would come crashing and the person will lose value in your sight. So to avoid losing value and regards, you have to learn to be on the side of the truth. When people remark you for being truthful at all times, they will not have difficulty in believing you subsequently. In fact you do not need to verify their words because you have proven the person to be truthful.
The next advantage is that you will gain trust and have more things entrusted into your hands. In your place of work for example, if they have noted you to be truthful in the discharge of your duties, they will trust you more and then entrust a lot of responsibilities to you. If they want to go for procurement for example, and they are looking for someone who they can trust to carry out the assignment, they will single you out. But if they know that you will misappropriate the funds and lie about it, no one will remember you. The truth you say can open doors for you that even your qualifications may not do.
Another advantage of being on the side of the truth is that it makes you a better individual, which in turn, attracts good things your way. There is a kind of feeling of accomplishment that comes into the mind when you know you have dealt truthfully with people. This will also make them to deal truthfully with you. As creatures of conscience and consciousness, it is worthy to note that you will know when you are saying the truth and when you are telling lies. You may be able to deceive others with lies but you cannot deceive yourself. And the consequences will definitely come.
However, you need to know that being truthful does not mean sounding rude. Even if what you want to say is right, you still have a responsibility to put it in a right way, otherwise the purpose of saying the truth will be defeated. This is why I tell people that you can still be saying the truth but if it is in a wrong manner, it will have a negative effect instead of a positive effect. As much as you should be on the side of the truth, you have to be civil, humane, and do it with good ethics and etiquettes. The truth that will work is the one said in pure conscience.
In addition to saying the truth, you also need to show it with your actions. Your words and your actions should work in alignment. You should not be saying one thing; the truth; whereas your actions are totally opposite of it. In fact, people are more piqued to link your personality to your actions more than your words. This is why you have to act the truth that you profess. Remember that there is benefit in saying and acting truthfully, and it is a mark of wisdom and maturity to do what is beneficial. No matter the situation you find yourself in, always stand by the side of the truth even if it means that you will stand alone, because you will reap the rewards someday.
