Recognizing And Acting On Opportunities: Taking Hold Of The Moment
I was having a discussion with a friend of mine some days back and I told him that opportunities are all around and even closer than you may think, but the problem is that not everyone is even aware nor recognizes the opportunities. Even some of those who recognise the opportunity do not act on them. Sometimes, you just need to take hold of the moment in order to recognise an opportunity. That is, be aware of your environment, be willing to move out from your place of comfort, and then develop a mindset of growth and development. Remember that recognizing opportunities is not a function of luck but it is by taking responsibilities. Here we shall take a look at how to recognise and ultimately act on opportunities.
The first step and obviously a very important factor towards recognizing opportunities is to create a proactive mindset that is always receptive to changes. It is true that changes happen on an absolutely constant basis. But the truth is that each change that occurs can open you up to many new things which you can actually see some good things inside. For a change to occur, that means it has opportunities in it, and when you develop this mindset, then you will take advantage of anything that comes your way.
The next step is to continue learning. The truth is that there is an immense opportunity in learning and becoming better. In fact, the more you have knowledge about a thing, the better you chances at seeing opportunities in it. Okay take this instance; when you get financial knowledge and other relevant information about investment, you will better make financial investment and you will see that the decisions you make will become more profitable as a result of the knowledge you have acquired. This is why, if you want to invest, it is good to go for more knowledge and undertake your research. It is worthy to note that learning and knowledge will open anyone up to a whole new level of opportunity that they never knew existed.
The next step is to know how to deal effectively with failure. The truth is that failure does not supposed to be a setback, but that is if you are able to see beyond it. There are places where some people have failed at but those places hold an incredible amount of opportunities for them. There was a particular popular Formula1 car racer that was interviewed who has made so much impact in the sport. He revealed that during his young age he failed his driving test and had to try again. Now fast-forward to many years later, he became a professional athlete of renown in the same field that he initially failed at. This goes to prove that because you failed does not mean that there is no opportunity for you, but it means that you need to put in extra efforts.
For you to recognise and act on opportunities, you also need to make friends with and stay in the company of right people. I have come to understand that the people you stay together with can help open doors for you or shut them against you, this is why you have to keep your eyes open when making friends. The truth is that there are some level of opportunities you may never be exposed to on your own until you are in the company of the people that have achieved similar thing. Sometimes you just need to see the world from the perspective of the people that have gone ahead of you. You will be surprised to know that some very good opportunities can actually come from recommendations from friends or even as word-of-mouth from your close acquaintances. So keep a positive company.
The last step towards recognizing and acting on opportunities is the usage of time. Time on its own is an opportunity if you know how to effectively use it. Every ticking time carries some potential to deliver something great, but you have to be the one to take advantage of it. If you delay an action that you should have taken, then you are already destroying opportunities. Whatever you want to do, especially in relation to your ideas, dreams, goals, etc, should be done quickly and promptly. In this way, you are already turning time into your ally.
