Potency Of Generosity
There is one language that can be understood by every individual irrespective of where they are coming from, their race, tribes, social inclination, background, etc, and this is the act of generosity or liberality. It is worthy to note that act of generosity is a very potent force that can go beyond the boundaries of culture, religion and status. This act represents that ability and the zeal to give to others and towards the course of humanity without necessarily expecting to get something else in return. It does not mean that it is wrong to expect something in return, but generosity does not focus on it but on helping the course of humanity and affecting others positively.
I have come to realise that the benefits which are wielded from the power of generosity are not only for the immediate but are inclusive of the future. One single act of generosity that you show can set a precedence for other people's acts to follow suit and the world around you would become better by your acts of liberality. When you want the world to become better, then you should know that you have a responsibility to also do your own part. It is by doing your own part and others doing their own part that the world would begin to tilt towards being better.
It is important to note that generosity does not only start and stop with material things or money. Trust me, there are things that you can be generous with apart from money and other things that eyes can see. For example, you can invest your time for the course of helping others - like through the act of volunteering, etc. You can also be generous with you attention; giving advices, showing a feeling of emotions towards others, being empathetic, and even investing your energy. This is just to prove to you that whatever you have can be used to help others.
I have come to understand that someone's act of generosity does not only benefit the person that receives it, even the giver is also a beneficiary; whether directly or indirectly; of the act of generosity. You will agree with me that there is a kind of good feeling or satisfaction and a sense of accomplishment that comes into the mind when you have given someone a help which is worthwhile. Is there a greater blessing than being blessed to bless others? As a matter of fact, one of the primary reasons why you have been able to stand is to also help others to stand too. This brings to mind what my friend once said:
The best form of rising is by lifting others.
There are things that you can easily achieve being helping others. People will be willing to entrust things to you when they know that you will not use it for your own selfish reasons but to help others. More so, it has been said that there are many health benefits that someone can get from being generous - like an increased happiness (which makes one feel good), reduced stress, and even an improvement in overall mental health. This goes to prove that you also benefit from whatever you give, even if it is not in the same manner but in other indirect ways.
I once read about a feeling called "helper's high," which explains what happens to the human brain when you give or show kindness to people - it initiates the release of some sets of "feel good hormones" which will bring about a simulated feeling of joy, reduces stress, and it also creates an inner satisfaction. If you observe well, you will notice that the generous souls are also happier souls. Of course, you cannot make people to be happy and not also share from the same happiness.
The last benefit and potency of generosity that we will look at is that it can inspire and motivate others to emulate one's good act. If someone witnesses an act of kindness or goodness being done by someone, it has the tendency of inspiring them to follow after the same pathway. By doing this, you would have transformed the individuals, community, and the world at large.
