Focus On Your Dreams
I have come to understand that part of what make a lot of people not to attain what they had initially planned is not because they could not achieve it but because of distraction or lack of focus. When you are not focused on what you want to achieve, it becomes like an impossible task. You cannot be driving forward in a car and keep your eyes distracted on everything that is moving along the road and on your rear glass. If you do, you may never get to your destination. To move forward in life, then you have to focus on moving forward. The truth is that where your dominant focus is will be where you will be drawn towards.
What you focus more in life is what you will attain. As a matter of fact, even the power of endurance is substantiated by your ability to focus. For example, if you want to achieve a good grade in your university degree, then you need to focus on that and give it all it takes. Even when things that may be challenging will come up, your ability to endure them and keep moving is a function of the focus you have on the dreams of having a good grade. Without focus in life, life itself might become a journey in mere futility. But with focus, you will be surprised what you have the ability to achieve.
It is worthy to note that in life, the power of focus is more potent than the force of obstacles. That is, the more focused you are, the less you are concerned about the obstacles on your way. You do not have any business fighting obstacles on your way to achieving your dreams, stay focused and you will realise that those obstacles are actually stepping-stones for you. When you build up yourself to stay focused even in the midst of turbulence, then you have achieved a higher form of self-awareness. When you have a dream of what you want to achieve, that is all that matters to you, and you should give it your undivided attention without having to be distracted. Of course, challenges will come, but you have to learn to stay on course to your dreams.
There are things that you cannot stop from happening because you do not have control over them nor influence on them. However, you have control over a lot of things including your focus, so use it to your advantage. As a sailor for example, you may not determine when and how the storm will arise because you do not have control of it, but you have control of your sail, so use it to your advantage - focus on getting to your destination and then direct your sail aright without being distracted by the storm. In fact, the presence of the storm can be to your advantage if you are a good sailor because it will help you to direct your sail to your destination. You have to understand that your focus in life is a very potent weapon to overcome challenges but only if you can wield it currently.
As you pursue after your dreams, you may be faced with things that may want to distract you; some may even look palatable, but maintain your focus. A friend once said, "life may present to you a bike just to distract you from a car." If you are going to a place and you boarded a bus together with others. If someone drops at their own destination and you get distracted and follow them to drop, you may never get to your own destination. In the same way in life, someone may be doing something or may have even achieved a couple of things but it does not mean you should follow them if you do not share the same dream with them. Remember that it takes different times for maize and for cocoa to germinate and grow.
As a farmer for example, if you plant palm tree and another farmer plants corn, they will definitely start harvesting before you because it takes a couple of months for corn to mature, while the palm tree may take years. But when you start to harvest your own, it will be loud. If you get distracted by the other farmer that has started harvesting his corn and go to uproot your palm because you think they are not doing well, then you will never have a palm harvest. To make it in life, you have to learn to stay on your lane. No runner who jumps between lanes will be rewarded at the end of the race because the runner had contravened the rules and had lost focus. In life, one of your greatest assets is your focus, so maintain it.
