Do Not Give Up On Doing Good

A few days back, on social media, I saw a particular picture that was posted and the story behind it was amazing. It was the picture of a boy that was almost eaten up by kwashiorkor and looked very lean. In fact, the ribs were visible and you can see weaknesses in him. He was rescued by a foreigner on tourism and then offered some help. Fastforward to now, the same boy is now a college graduate with multiple awards. During his convocation, his benefactor was there to grace the occasion and they could not hold back tears of joy from their eyes. The help which they offered some years back and their acts of goodness have produced something remarkable. You cannot tell what the good you do for others can produce, so keep doing good.

You do not need extra motivation to do good. Life itself has provided us with a lot of opportunities to do good. You do not do good because the person in question deserves what is to be done for them, but you do good because it is the right thing to do and because of your humanity. The truth is, even if you also hope for good to be done for you, it should not be your prime reason why you should be good. In fact, the person you do good to might not even be able to pay you back, not because they do not want to, but because they could not, but it should not stop you from going ahead and doing the good.

If your good deeds are only to the people who have done good to you or those who you expect to get good from, then you are just being transactional. On the same hand, your acts of kindness should not be to only a selected few but to all. Even if you cannot reach out to everyone, at least start from where you are and the people around you. There will always be people in need of your kindness. One of the reasons why you have received blessings in any way is to also use it to be a blessing to others.

No matter the level at which you are now, there is still something within your reach that can be used to service the needs of humanity. It may not look too big but it is the heart and the willingness to give that counts. What I have discovered about giving is that it has to come from a willing heart to count. As long as it is in yourself heart to do good, it must find its way in your hand to do it. All that matter is the willingness to do good and then your heart of kindness, and you will understand that even what you think is little can be more than enough. Your acts of kindness is an expression of your humanity, not a function of the personality of the recipient. When you understand this, you will not be discouraged from doing good by what someone does or does not do.

With the so much hardness and cruelty that is experienced in the world, your little act of kindness and the good you do to someone can be what will sustain their hopes. It may look little, but the effect can become like a ripple reaction that will trigger other goodness. This is why I believe that the good done to one person is the good that has been initiated to the world at large. The good you want the world to be modelled after should start with you. If you do good to one person and the same person does good to someone else and it continues, before long, the world will become a better place.

It is worthy to note that there is no good deed that you have done, no matter what it is and who you did it to that will not have a positive effect in the future. In fact, doing good is like sowing a good and positive seed which has the ability to produce fruits even bigger than what was sown. Every opportunity that life presents you to do good, you should see it as an avenue to sow into the future. Somehow, what you do today to people will come back to you in the future. I conclude with this statement by a mentor "what you make happen for someone today will be what someone else will make happen for you tomorrow."
