Continuous Improvement on Yourself: Becoming the Better Version of You
In life, the measure of your success is not in how many people's records you have beaten or how many people you are competing with, but how you have improved on yourself and how many of your own records you have broken. If you are not improving on yourself and if you are still the way you are yesterday, then you have not progressed. There are aspects of yourself you need to constantly work on, which we will look at here. Remember that for you to experience growth in life, then you need to be committed to self-improvement. Let us look at the areas where you need self-improvement.
The first area is in learning. If what you know now is only the same knowledge you had acquired yesteryears, then you are not improving. In the real sense, you are actually receding because the knowledge would have already started to become obsolete. It is when you learn that you can grow from where you are. As a matter of fact, growth is almost impossible without constant learning. As long as you keep learning, you will see reasons to keep learning and you will keep getting better. There is no place in life that you will outgrow learning. In fact, if you think you do not need to learn again, you will begin to tilt towards ignorance and you stand the risk of becoming obsolete.
When learning, as a way to improve yourself and to become better, you need to understand that you need to be far and wide with your knowledge acquisition. You do not have to limit your entire knowledge on just on your field or on your discipline. The farther you learn, the more relevant you become. In this era, a lot of things are constantly changing to match with the trend of evolution of world's trend. In the same way, you also need to update your knowledge to match with the order of the same trend. Imagine living in a world that is already moving towards AI and technology, but you have zero knowledge of tech, how will you adapt to the changes that will arise from it?
In addition to learning, you have to also acquire new skils and improve on your old skills. You will be surprised that the skills you acquire today may become your greatest ally tomorrow. Any opportunity you have to acquire new skills is an opportunity to grow and become a better version of yourself. There is no skill that is irrelevant - even if you do not have a need for it today, an opportunity might present to you in the future for its application. As you are acquiring new skills, also do not forget to improve on your current skills. For example; if you have a skill in using a system to design, you can also upgrade to also including designing on mobile devices to give you ease of design-on-the-go.
Your skills are part of what makes you relevant in this world and at this era where competitions are becoming very intense. Even in your place of work for example, you may be employed because of your academic qualifications and maybe years of experience, but there are certain levels of skills they expect from you after a while. When you keep working on your skills, you will become more valuable to the company and they will treat you like an asset. But if you are not adding value because you lack relevant skills, you will become easily replaceable.
In addition to getting skills, you have to also set goals, pursue them, and fulfill them. If you do not have what you are standing for, then you may not become outstanding in life. Without having a goal in life, life can be without direction and aimless. You need to have a goal so as to give you a purpose in life, and to make you to know your progress so far and to also make you motivated to put in more efforts. Also remember that when making a goal, it should not be an impossible task nor be so rigid, but it should be something doable and what you can achieve within a stipulated time frame. By achieving it, it will give you the zeal for even greater goals.
