Celebrating Your Achievements; A Pathway To Achieving More
A lot of people keep putting in efforts in the pursuit of their goals, but they never take time to look at the progress they have made so far. This will make them not to be aware that they are actually making progress and they may ultimately become discouraged from taking further actions. When you learn to celebrate your little "wins," it will be give you the zeal and boost your enthusiasm to keep going. The truth is that you are actually making progress, but you need to pause a while to recount them and celebrate them. There is a kind of strength that is released within you to do more when you know that you are doing great.
I remember when I was in the university, I set a milestone of how many hours I was going to read at night. At first, it seemed like it was little in the eyes of those that are known to read at night, but it matters more to me. In the first night, I hit the milestone and I felt so happy about it. The happiness I derived from it made me to go a bit higher the next night and I felt happy with the result. Even though I started late, I was able to cover the whole syllabus before exams. When the results of the exams came out, my hard work paid off because they were excellent. This is the benefit of celebrating your achievement - it gives you the motivation to achieve even more.
Another benefit of celebrating your achievement is that it boosts your confidence in undertaking more tasks. When you know that you have succeeded in performing a task in the past, it will give you the needed encouragement to do it again or even a bigger task. I once read about a particular warrior who stumbled into a bear on his way to the farm. The bear charged at him and at that point, he knew that his life was in danger, so he reached out into his bag and retrieved a little farm tool, and when the bear approached him, he put up a really good fight against it.
After about 10 minutes of intense battle, he finally overpowered the bear. He felt so happy about the feat and went around to announce it to his friends with proofs. He was even nicknamed "beast slayer" in the village as a way of recognition of his achievement. Just about 1 year of the feat, a lion started terrorizing the locals out of the woods. Well, they sought for him because he had proven himself as the beast slayer. When he got into the woods, he told himself "I defeated a bear, I can defeat this lion." His past achievement was what gave him the confidence to confront the lion. In the same way he defeated the bear, he overpowered the lion and defeated it. The power of confidence that comes from celebrating one's achievement.
The next benefit of celebrating your achievement that we shall look at is; it serves as a motivation and inspiration to others. When you share your feats with others, there is a tendency that they will feel inspired by it and also attempt their own. Of course, for you to have done it means that it can be done, and it means that anyone can do it. Trust me, there are things you will not know is possible until you see someone doing it and you will feel inspired by it to do more. Take this instance: no one ever knew that humans would be able to leave the earth until it was done. Now, space travels have become like a normal journey.
However, one thing you have to be conscious of is: Do not allow anyone to make you feel like you are not making progress. And do not allow their own standards and definition of success make you to belittle your own. To others, they may not see your progress yet, but it does not mean that you are not making progress. What others consider success may not fit into your definition of success and vice versa. So learn to become more focused on pursuing after your own goals instead of seeking for someone else's validation. Trust me, some people may not even like the fact that you are making progress and may want to talk you out of it, because of envy. This is why you do not have to allow other people's opinions and views to become your own reality.
