A Return To a Stranger Lover

I'm tired of the relationship, this is the third time, I'm been served breakfast in a year. I don't think relationship is for me, I keep getting the wrong people. I give them my heart, I give them my all, what do I get in return? Heartbreak. Nah! I'm not doing this again. I'm done with relationship, Paul said. After one month, Paul decides to change environment, he needed fresh air, so he decides to go see his friend who lives in Lagos, while on the bus, he overheard a group of people discussing one app called soul meet, where people can meet their soul mate, or at least meet a new friend. He got interested and downloaded the app right there and then but due to network issues wasn't able to sign in or surf it.

The App
After one week in Lagos, he remembered the app and decides to check it out again, to see if the network would allow it to work this time, luckily for him, the network was so smooth, he signed up, got registered on the app and he started chatting. The first person he met on the app was Jenny. Jenny was a very beautiful black damsel, who her stepmother and sister, were maltreating, they seized everything her father willed to her. And because she has no one to speak for her, she became a slave in her father's house.

Jenny does all the house chores, and the sister does nothing but goes from one vacation to another, with the help of her stepmom, they sold all the properties left by Jenny’s father, except the house they are living in. After 3 years of Mr Afam’s Jenny’s father's demise, they have spent all the money the man left and there were left with nothing, so now they are desperately in need of money to maintain their lifestyle.

Meanwhile, while Jenny’s sister and stepmom were thinking about what to do to get money, Jenny was bonding with her newfound love, Paul. But because of the rules of the app, they didn't tell each other their names, he called her Damsel in Distress and she called him Angel of love. Paul decided to call Jenny Damsel in distress, due to the stories Jenny has told him about her life and how she is been maltreated. So he gave him that name, Damsel in distress, while Jenny decides to call Paul Angel of love, because of how lovely and caring Paul was. Paul opened her up to another level of emotions that she has never known before, so the name Angel of love was perfect for him.

They continue chatting for weeks, their bond grew stronger and stronger. But yet they have not seen each other pictures nor even know each other's real name, because the rules of the app forbid that, you only share contact, names or pictures when the both of you have met. So because of that, they were chatting for weeks without knowing each other's real names or what they look like. They only have a mental picture of each other.

It continued like this, until one day, they decided to meet, and they both agreed on the kind and colour of clothes to wear. Damsel in distress chose to wear a red gown while the angel of love decides to wear a white suit, he sends his number to Jenny so that she can call him when she is ready, so he can tell her where to meet him. they were still chatting, when her stepmom and the sister bashed Into her room, with the mom pretending to be sick, so they ask her to please help them to go get medicine, so she hurriedly left the room without her phone, in other to get some for him some medication, not knowing that they have another plan for her.

Immediately she left the house, they took her phone, read the messages, copied the contact and deleted all the chats she had with the guy, and threw her phone into a cup of water, before she could return, the water had spoilt the phone. She was very sad when she saw that water entered her phone. She ask them what happened to her phone, they pleaded with her, that the phone mistakenly fell inside the water. Still unsuspicious of them, she thought it was just a harmless mistake. After a few days, she went to repair the phone, and to her surprise, all chats were wiped out, she doesn't have the guy's contact, she went to the app, but she couldn't get the guy's contact or name, due to the app’s rules, so she wasn't able to locate the guy again. She was mad, it was as if someone slapped her aching tooth.

The Twist

The boy too, was trying to reach her but to no avail. Days later, Jenny's sister contacted the guy, pretending to be Damsel in distress, the guy was very happy to hear from her again, not knowing she wasn't the real person he has been chatting with, so they quickly decided to meet, and that same day they made out. But while they were talking he noticed that something was off, that the person he was chatting with sounded so different from the person he was chatting with now.

Things started becoming obvious to the guy, when Jenny’s sis, started becoming desperate for money and marriage, because she and her mom are broke, and they need money to survive, she sees the guy as her cashout plan. So one day Jenny went to buy something in the market, on her way back one of her slippers cut, she was going round the market, looking for where to mend her slippers, one guy drove pass her and reserved towards her and said, hello beautiful, you looked stressed and lost, what's the matter? She said, I'm just looking for where I can fix my slippers, it's cut. The man said get in the car, let me drive you to where you can fix it. So she entered the car and they got talking, one thing led to another, they exchanged contact, and he drove her back home after mending her slippers. They continued talking on the phone, the more they talked, the more they felt as if they have known each other for years. So they decided to have dinner, and it was during that dinner, that they realised that both of them, is the angel of love and Damsel in distress.

It was a moment of truth, a moment of discovery, a moment of strange but passionate love and affection, it was also a moment of disgust, as the angel of love hated Jenny's sister for deceiving him, while Jenny hated her sister for betraying her. At the end of everything, Paul finally finds a woman that loved him for him. He was finally returned to his stranger lover.
