Brother! We have come to reunite!

The sun was setting on the mountaintop, casting a golden hue on the surface, reflecting in the waters, and mirroring on the leaves. The grasses were at their finest greenery shade with the flowers in their fairest bloom. The lawns of daffodils sat pretty on the left side of the garden and the daisies and lilies built a colorful setting on the other side of the lawn.

The ranch was filled with livestock, cows, chickens, pigs, and pigeons. The horses were fastened well in their stables and the stack of hays was well-mounted in the warehouse.

This was the countryside setting for centuries, following the antecedent, they have continued on their ancestor’s path.

On the farmhouse, there are several well-built houses with wooden thatched rooftops with wooden building structures while they all live as one big family.

Mr Greg, the town head, stepped out of his house, stretching and yawning as he squinted his eyes at the direct sunlight that shone in his eyes.

“Good morning, Mr Greg,” One of the people on the farmhouse greeted.

“Good morning, James. How’s Moana and the children?” Mr Greg asked.

“They went to the woods.”

“Alone?” Mr Greg inquired as he stepped out of his doorway.

“I needed to feed the horses and clean the stable down the riverside.”

“Still, they are women. They shouldn’t be alone.”

“I’d just hurry up with this and go to them,” James replied.

“You should,” Mr Greg answered as he patted his shoulder and walked towards the warehouse, waving and greeting the people as he walked further.

Mr Greg had lived all his life as a single man and even now in his late forties, he still sees no reason to be tied with a woman. He stopped believing in love and marriage after his ex-fiance left him for his father. It was decades ago but it still remained fresh in his memory.

Regardless, he had always admired seeing a happy family with their partner and their children.

Now, as he walked by Charlottes’ house which was the next house to his, watching her wet the flowers, a part of him was awakened. A part that had been dormant for a very long time. A part that he had slowly forgotten even existed.

“Good morning, Mr Greg,” Charlotte said as she turned around with a smile on her face. A smile as bright as the sunlight flashed on her face which caused her to squint her eyes. Her voice was so soft to his ears that he erupted a broad smile from the depth of his heart which appeared on his face.

“Good morning, Charlotte,” Mr Greg said with a very broad smile. He was going to move closer to her when an uproar flared from the deep woods.

“Hellp!” The voice came from the woods and everyone became alerted.

The birds’ chirping sounded pitched higher and the trees moved in an unrest motion. The birds flew, masking the sky and almost turning it black.

“Mr Greg!” everyone shouted as they hurried closer to him.

“Set the traps when the voice yelling appears. Draw the ropes and set the fences,” Mr Greg instructed. “James, assemble the farmers. We need all hands!”

As everyone took their positions, they all set their eyes on the woods while they waited for what was to come.

“Mr Greg, Moana and Cara are in the woods,” James rushed over with fear evident on his face. Grey ruffled his hair as the voice in the wood got closer.

“Do as I say. Moana and Cara will be fine!” Greg said and James nodded, hurrying away.

The people in the town would trust Greg with their life. Not because he had proved himself to be capable of saving them in times of trouble since there had not been a time in a long time since they were faced with any form of threat but because Greg was a person they could trust in times of trouble.

A few seconds passed by and Cara ran towards them and soon, Moana ran behind her.

“Men are coming!” Moana shouted. “Men in horses and cars!”

“Raise the fences. Pull the ropes!”

“Pull!” they yelled and soon, Moana and Cara joined them.

They stood still as they waited for the horses and the cars. In no time, the horses emerged, followed by the cars.

“We mean no harm!” one of the men on the horse yelled as he galloped towards them.

“Please, we mean no harm!” the man repeated as he got in front of them with his free hand raised in the air.

Greg stared blankly at the man, speechless. He swallowed hard, unable to believe who was in front of him.

“Geoffrey?” Greg called and a broad smile played on Geoffrey’s face.

“Brother! We have come to reunite!”

A few hours passed after Geoffrey and his men arrived, they introduced themselves to the people of the town and explained their aim of planning to join with them which was to modernize their ways of life.

Geoffrey and Greg sat together, trying to get their alone time together. After their father did what he did to Greg, Greg vowed to never go back home again and that was the last time Geoffrey ever saw him.

“Brother!” they said in unison as they both went in for a tight hug, patting each other’s back.

“You’ve grown!” Greg said, squeezing his shoulder.

“So have you, big brother. So have you!” They both laughed.

They walked to the window side, resting their elbows on the window sill.

“How did you find me?” Greg asked.

“All my life, brother. All my life, I have looked out for you, searching for you but then, I saw on the news about a small town in the countryside. How they have lived peacefully and in harmony. I have worked on tools that could enhance much more harmony so I thought to reunite so we can work together,” Geoffrey explained.

“That news. Told them not to broadcast it.”

“That helped me find you,” Geoffrey said with a smile and Greg nodded.

“Now, we would forever be together in the same harmony!”
