Back in the ring after a long time!
Hey, Hive people, we're back after a long time without uploading practically anything, this time we're back with a review of the last installment of The Vigilante, a movie that many didn't like and for others it passed without shame or glory; for me it was just another movie in another closing.
The Vigilante 3, epilogue of the trilogy of the same name, this time we find an older McCall, compared to the previous installments, the weight of the years is already noticeable; this time McCall is in southern Italy living in a kind of retirement until the mafia messes with the people McCall appreciates in his new home and he is forced to take matters into his own hands.
First things first, while it is true that this trilogy is characterized by its story and action in each installment, here it opts for an imbalance and goes more for the historical/emotional closing of the story, compared to the previous two, let's say that this is the one that lacks more action; honestly I had to watch the trailer again since I had seen it a while ago and I can say that there is more action in the trailer than in the film itself (room for a bad joke). Ok, the lack of action may not make that much noise since this is more about story and which sometimes doesn't hurt, at least in my case, this installment of the Vigilante is more about showing a side of McCall that hasn't been explored as much in the previous ones.
If we talk about action the film starts at the top of a roller coaster giving us a somewhat short introduction in this section but well enough to expect something more as we move forward in the footage but the truth is that it is not so, just as in the roller coaster after the rise comes the descent (From what I've seen on the internet, I've never ridden one) and so it happens in the action scenes. For a moment imagine a roller coaster that goes to ground level in a straight line and along the way only has three to five climbs one higher than others, something like that happens with the film, in this installment I don't think it's bad as I said a few moments ago but honestly I expected a little more, something different in that section.
As for the story I think this is its strongest point, after the introduction we realise that this will be a somewhat different journey as we see our protagonist make a mistake that I personally do not remember seeing him fall into something like this with respect to the previous films, he is rescued, healed and cared for in a ‘small’ town in Italy, we see how little by little the people are accepting him as one of the locals and not as a foreigner, he earns a place among them.
Now, the villain, the bad guy, the real bad guy, the ice-cream daddy (an expression from my country), is sold to us as someone difficult to defeat, someone who will put our beloved protagonist in serious trouble, but the reality cannot go beyond that. Personally, the villain of this closing was terrible; as I said, they sell him to us as THE VILLAIN, in capital letters, but he doesn't reach half of what he was the target to kill in the previous installment, I mean, at the beginning he convinces of what he is capable of doing that is very clear to me but by the end he turns out to be the opposite and ends up leaving a somewhat bitter taste being, in my opinion, the point in which this film falters the most.
Sonorously and visually it does not disappoint, this time I had the opportunity to enjoy it with headphones and I can say that it is a spectacle as the music is synchronized with the scene of the moment and sometimes as McCall accompanies through those simple but incredible streets of Italy along with its landscapes, just something that is right in this film.
My recommendation is that you don't lose too much by watching it, I mean, if you are already watching the previous ones, go ahead and close the story of our vigilante played by an incredible Denzel Washington who does not disappoint with his performance, it may not be the best of the three and has left a feeling that he could give a little more to culminate this story. If you're looking for action or a spectacular ending, I recommend you don't see it if you think it might be a waste of time you're not missing much but if you want to see how our vigilante ends his story and it looks like he finally has a happy ending give it a chance.
Remember that this is just my opinion about this movie, I would like to know what you think about it and what you thought about the movie, share your opinion below so we can exchange ideas about it, without more to say see you in the next post. : )
