Less Dishware, Less Stress || Kiss-Blog-Idea Wk#82
Growing up, I was not always happy whenever I had to wash large quantities of dishware. I do it because I don't want to have my mom scolding me not because I derive joy in doing so. It always take a long time for me to wash the pots, plates, cups, pans, etc because after washing I will have to clean them and arrange them.
Over the years, we have had cousins stay with us for a few years which invariably made ours a large family. Whenever my mum and I finish preparing a meal, it falls back on me to have to wash everything used in cooking and also wash the plates and cups used after eating.
Before my younger sister was old enough to assist me in washing the plates, I had been washing them in large quantities. I had three cousins living with us then, all of them were male and way older than I am which made me always in charge of washing the dishes. So whenever they want to prepare food themselves, instead of washing the previously used pot, they will bring out a clean one from the store and use it for cooking thereby making the quantity of dishes I want to wash increase.
Sometimes, I will come back from school and already have loads of plates and pots waiting for me. I will have to wash them reluctantly.
Back then, my mum had enough of all the kitchenwares in the store, even enough for a party. She has those large iron pots, large spoons, pans, big coolers, etc used for parties. She is the real definition of " I am always ready for any party".
Frankly, I only see the usefulness of this kitchenwares during parties and since we don't always have parties, it is mostly in the store. Sometimes, she do give it out to our neighbors who need to make use of it when they also have a party to prepare for. But when it comes to cleaning the store(which is mostly done by me), just by looking at the loads of things to arrange. I am already crying in advance 😃😃😃.
Now in my own home, I decided to have less. Infact way less than what my mum had in her store. She was very surprised when she came to visit and told me that I didn't take after her in terms of having a large amount of kitchenware. She offered to buy more for me but I told her buying them was not the problem, I just chose to have the few I had.
I have two serving bowls (a big and a small one) which I always use to hold my meals till I am ready to serve them.
I have a few pots, a kettle and just few plates. My whole collection of dishware is in small quantity. I prefer this to the large quantity of dishware we had back home.
My little collection doesn't take up too much space and is also very easy to wash and arrange without taking much time.
You might ask what I will do if I have a party. For me, I have always loved a party with less stress. Moreover, there are lots of places around me where people rent out these large cooking equipment for parties. It is more like a source of income for them. So If I want to host a party, I would rent some of the large kitchenware I would need for my party.
So I am very satisfied with these few dishes I have because now, washing my dishwares is very easy for me. After eating, I will have a few things to wash and arrange and that doesn't take much of my time.
Thank you all for coming around.

Hehe. Party woman.
I understand people like that. Like my aunty, she has all these party stuff store in her place.
All the work is usually done by you. Haha.
You now have a choice to choose how you want your dishwares to be, I’m glad you chose to be minimal.
Interesting. If you live alone, you will not need to stack up these things. The stacks build up when there are more and more people to feed. I also dreaded seeing lots of dishes back then so I found a way. My mum would say as best to clean up as you cook. That way, there is nothing left when you are done. Also, I started to clean just after the meals. That helped me.
Growing up in the extended family house with my grandmother and other relatives, I had a similar experience as well, especially during festive seasons but I had cousins to help me out sha 😂.
