A Surprise Visit From A Rare Gem

A surprise came to me with the love of a gem. Let me tell you our story.

This lady you are seeing here is a beautiful soul, a rare gem. Her name is Tosin, she is my childhood friend, her place is like a stone's throw from mine. Her parents knew mine so we are more like family friends.

Whenever she comes visiting we'd talk and talk without remembering to eat till very late. And when she is leaving my house for hers, I'd accompany her and we will continue talking till I will get to her place. The craziest part of this is that she will offer to accompany me back while we continue our talk till we get back to my place. This leaves me with no other choice than to offer to accompany her again, and we will continue like that till one of our mothers speaks up. Well... you can term us crazy. There was never a boring moment with her as we'd never run out of things to talk about.

Unfortunately, her mum passed and she left to stay with her elder sister in another state. We do talk frequently on the phone, chat, and all that, but there is something about seeing each other physically that makes the gist sweeter.

The day I will never forget was the day she surprised me, it was my birthday and I woke up to messages from her and some friends that don't stay close. I was a bit happy but sad at the same time because my friend is not with me. We chatted and I told her I wished she was with me that day. Since I have nowhere to go and it was a time in my life when I was very broke, with no money to go out, I stayed indoors. I settled for watching some movies on my phone and resumed chatting with her and a few friends.

Evening came in fast and as I was about to retire to bed, I heard a knock on our gate. I wondered who it was as it was getting late and I went to open the gate.

Lo and behold, it was my friend Tosin standing in my compound with a smile on her face.

I was rooted to the spot as I didn't believe she was real. She called out my name and held me taking me out of my trance. I saw that she was indeed standing in my compound. I couldn't speak as the shock is yet to leave me.

I came close to her and held her hand. I could feel tears glisten in my eyes. It was as if someone had died but only I knew the reason behind my tears and so did she. A few neighbors looked at us from their balcony wondering what was going on.

Tosin held me as I shed my tears of joy. We went in and my parents were also happy to see her. Seeing her alone was more than enough for me. As if the day couldn't get any better, she came with a surprise cake as well, apologizing to me that this is what she could get at the last minute.

I shared the cake with her and my family that night. I wanted to allow her to rest since she had a stressful journey, but we both couldn't sleep without the normal ' gist time ' on months spent apart. My mum knew we won't sleep on time that night and she let us be. We had a wonderful time chatting about lots of good things and we wished we could reverse the hands of time.

Finally, after what seemed like a very long time, we retired to bed and I slept with a smile on my face.
Whenever I remember that day, I always feel this joy in my heart and tears of joy rolling down my cheek. I am so lucky to have her as my friend.
