Does Equal Pay Make The Working Sector Fair
Hi guys,
The week has started and as usual I hope we are all going about our normal business. Today I’d like to talk about the idea of equal pay.
I think for me this is a sensitive topic to tackle. Certain professions in this world think they are undervalued and so they are underpaid. On the other hand, some of us think they are right and what they are given is virtually not enough to pay for their day-to-day activities.
One such jobs is teaching in Africa. Well, I don’t know how it works in other countries but I know that in my country Ghana, teachers are underpaid. Mostly we argue for them but those who make the salaries somehow in their heads think that it’s okay to pay that little to teachers. At this rate, at times you wonder what makes people want to become teachers.
It’s that bad that even the teachers don’t snag their kids to be teachers. What to do? Well, it’s the country we live in.
I’ll be a hypocrite to not admit that I do think some people are overly paid as well. Most of the time this argument is directed at the politicians. You wonder what at all they pay for that guarantees them to take home such huge salaries. For a politician who basically gets everything free in my country, I sometimes wonder why he should take home such a huge salary? Complain and they will explain to you why he or she deserves that much.
No, I don’t think everyone deserves equal pay. Look at it from this point of view. Sometime last year there was this ongoing debate about women and men in football. The women said they should give them equal pay as the men cause they are supposed to be equal. I agree that both genders are basically doing the same thing; which is playing football but do they both have the same effect?
How many people watch women's sports as compared to men? The amount of money which is generated by men’s football is ridiculous and as such men merit the amount of money they are paid as wages.
Now women don’t even come close to those numbers and as such where will their high-end salaries be coming from if they are to be paid equally? If they do get there one day I think they have the right to ask for equal pay.
So let’s look at it this way. Are all jobs the same? No. Do all jobs matter? Yes but then all jobs don’t generate the same revenue as others and as such they can’t be given equal pay.
If I had the power I’d definitely up the teacher's salary by a significant percentage and reduce that of the politicians. Am not saying the worm politicians do is not important but all am saying is what do they do with such huge amounts if the state is going to be paying for most of their needs? It doesn’t make sense.
If I had the power I’ll use the footballing system. You earn as much as you generate even though some jobs won’t follow that system. The teaching side will be a perfect example as the school won’t be able to generate income cause they are teaching children which is supposed to be affordable.
Other jobs will definitely take this route and I think it will make most people happy.
You're right about teachers collecting a low income, and this is not even encouraging the upcoming generation to become a teacher.I wish our leaders can do something about the payment.
And in my own view, both women and women should be given a equal payment as far as they doing the same job, but in a situation where they are not doing the samw job, payment can differ.
It's nice reading from you.
The teachers not receiving good pay is frustrating them and all of us.
If men and women are to be paid the same salary in the case of football where will the money for the women come from? The men are paid according to what they generate and the women as well. So it’s based on merit in my opinion.
If the women earn the same then they should be given the same.
The teachers do not have a good income !
Yes and that we all can agree on
Thank you🙋
