The myth of games-as-a-service replacing single player games
Greetings dear community, for today I want to talk about the myth that is dying single player games are going to die I still remember it was in 2018 several of my video game youtubers said it was the end of single player video games, this was due to the huge boom that was being seen with video games as a service or different multiplayer platforms.
At the time I opined that it seemed unlikely that this was going to happen because the single player video games are the most successful in the world, that includes the current games 2022, video games as a service, became very popular these last 4 years due to the popularity of batled royal games which attracted a lot of public through its method of connectivity where only one survives playerunknown's battlegrounds games opened the ground to explore this genre for others, but this was not the paradigm shift that would define the development of all video games.

I won't lie to you many video games tried to jump on the bandwagon with these video games as a service, but people realized that at most they needed 1 or 2 video games of this type to try when the market was flooded the rest inevitably went bankrupt because it was more of the same, it is then where the single player video games have their history, after the most important awards ceremony of the year was held, Elder Ring took the crown being a sigler player oriented game with online options.
In addition, it is also important to emphasize that video games like Servio are destined to have a relatively short lifespan, at a certain point they will never be played again, which is not the case with single player games.
Another characteristic that maybe only for me has relevance is that Online games are made for you to play them constantly to not be left behind, like MMORPGs, which for me are fun and full of content but they have something that I currently can't stand is why I haven't played any of them again, is that online video games decide you’re playing time and you are not the player who decides when to play, there is no button to pause the action, you do not decide when to go to kill the Boos of the area is the game that tells you at such an hour will occur an event if you are or are not that is not our problem.

These are game modes that with a busy life full of jobs and responsibilities we can't assume again, that's why single player games have a longer life span and can even be preserved for posterity.
So far games as a service have not managed to displace anyone, they have only occupied a place on the sales shelves and keeping competitive and casual gamers busy, but without taking away merits from anyone, those who thought this was the end of the singler playera were wrong, just as those who think that cryptocurrencies will displace Fiat currency or vice versa are wrong, they are destined to coexist not to eradicate each other.
Market floods are a common occurrence. Pocket monsters, open world zombie survival games, looter shooters, modern military shooters, MoBAs, arena fighter, ETC. One game gets success in a genre and every company tries to cash in by making a copy and the player base gets tired and moves on to another genre.
Eventually the players who enjoyed the genre come back and the genre has a game that becomes 'The one that beat the competitors'. It's just the current life cycle for most games and the general audience.
No matter what anyone says though, Single player games will always have a place in gaming. There are too many aspects that often get ignored in a 'always online' game, Story, world building, soundtrack, conversation, special moments a developer that want to have meaning to a player.
Besides, like you said, 'always online' means a player has to constantly keep up in order to play with everybody else. Many players don't wish to spend all the free time they have to commit to that, some just want to turn on a game and play!
I may have gone off on a tangent here but I did enjoy your post. Highly thought provoking stuff! Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
greetings @asincronismo thank you very much for reading my post, well we agree that there is room for all genres, even more for a single player, I'm glad you enjoyed the reading.
damn, interesting topic, I loved it, although, it's crazy that some youtubers have said that, for me they haven't died and won't die, it's just obviously more fun (for some) to play multiplayer, but I also prefer to play single player, especially in games that have an amazing story, but well, LET'S PRAY for singleplayer X not to die.
