Professional athletes, regular exercisers and exercise enthusiasts already know that music boosts their physical performance, so it's not really a secret. So, let's see what scientific research says about this.
In a 2020 study, Effects of Music in Effects of Music in Exercise and Sport: A Meta-Analytic Review was conducted. Regular physical activity has a wide range of benefits for physical and mental health, and the research has found that music has positive effects on physical activity. Additionally, the research says that working out with music improves your mood, helps your body exercise more efficiently, and reduces your awareness of exertion. Background & objectives: Music captures attention, triggers a range of emotions, alters or regulates mood, increases work output, heightens arousal, induces states of higher functioning, reduces inhibitions and encourages rhythmic movement. Music has ergo-genic effect as well, it increases exercise performance, delays fatigue and increases performance and endurance, power and strength. Our study tried to evaluate the effect of music on exercise performance in young untrained subjects. Methods: In this study, we tested the effect of music on sub maximal exercise performance time duration in young adults. 25 Male and 25 females were subjected to standard submaximal exercise with and without music.
Result : Table 1 shows the basic profile of study subjects. All data was expressed, as Mean ± SD. Mean exercise duration in whole group was significantly higher with music than without music (Table 2).
This research reveals that exercising with music also leads to longer workouts. In addition, researchers state that music has a strong effect on exercise intensities and that fast jazz, slow classical and self-selected music reduce the perception of exertion relative to a control condition. Purpose
The purpose of this investigation was to assess the effects of listening to music during warm-up on short-term supramaximal performances during the 30-s Wingate test in highly trained athletes.
Results
HR, RPE and the fatigue index during the Wingate test are not affected by the incorporation of music during warm-up. However, power output (Ppeak and Pmean) was significantly higher after MWU than NMWU (P<0.05). The relative increases were 4.1 ± 3.6 and 4.0 ± 3.7 W·kg−1 for Ppeak and Pmean respectively. These findings demonstrated the beneficial effect of music during warm-up on short-term supramaximal performances.
According to this research, athletes who listen to high-intensity, fast music during warm-up and exercise are motivated to perform better in competition. You can view the entire research here.

I am not a professional athlete, but I always listen to music while exercising. Music makes me feel good and more motivated. When I remember the times when I didn't listen to music while exercising, even 30 minutes of exercise seemed too long. But when I exercise while listening to music, I don't even notice how an hour.
Whether you are a professional athlete or someone who exercises occasionally, we should benefit from music. Many studies talk about the many benefits of exercising with music, and research shows that music can help you reach peak performance by using less oxygen.
