Like a Virgin is the second album by American singer and songwriter Madonna. The album was released on November 12, 1984 by Sire Records. It was produced by Madonna, Nile Rodgers and Steve Bray. Madonna wrote six songs on the record, five of which featured Steve Bray as a co-writer. The album was recorded between April and September 1984 at Power Station Studio in New York.

Like a Virgin received mixed reviews from music critics upon release, but retrospective reviews of the album have been much more positive. Madonna felt that the material on Like a Virgin was stronger, although there were no significant musical departure from Madonna's debut album. Like a Virgin was a major commercial success, becoming Madonna's first number-one album on the Billboard 200 and set the record as the first female album in history to sell more than five million copies in the United States. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) certified it diamond for shipment of ten million units. It also reached number one in Germany, Netherlands, Spain, New Zealand, Italy and the United Kingdom. The album has sold more than 21 million copies worldwide, and remains one of the best-selling albums of all time.

Like a Virgin has attained prominence as a cultural artifact of the 1980s. With her album Like a Virgin, Madonna proved that she was not a one-time miracle and that she would carve out a permanent footing in the music world. Madonna's songs became a lightning rod for both criticism from conservatives and imitation of the young female population, especially "Material Girl" and "Like a Virgin". In 2023, Like a Virgin was selected for preservation in the United States National Recording Registry by the Library of Congress for being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant".

Frankly, I love many of Madonna's songs. There are great songs on the Like a Virgin album, so it's hard to say that I have only one favorite song, but if I had to name one song, I would say "Into The Groove". I think "Into The Groove" is one of Madonna's best songs.

Madonna co-wrote this sweet, innocent, endlessly catchy classic with Stephen Bray. Two things inspired Madonna to write this song: her love of dance and her infatuation for a beautiful Latin boy in her neighborhood in New York. Truly legendary.
