Saturday Dinner at Mukhtarya
Yesterday was a busy day for me, moving from one task to another. Although I felt tired, being with family made the exhaustion fade away. While most people start their weekend on Friday evening, I had to go to the office as we have half-days on Saturdays. I went to work in the morning and came back home around 3 PM.
After lunch with the family, I took my wife and kids to the doctor for a check-up in the late afternoon. Once we were done, we headed to the community place and spent some time there with the kids. While I was there, I got a message in the friends' WhatsApp group about meeting up at a specific place by 9 PM. I responded that I wouldn’t be able to make it by 9 but could join around 10, and everyone agreed. I dropped my wife and kids home and headed to the meetup location using an online bike service, arriving right on time, as I like being punctual. Everyone else showed up a bit later.
One of our friends suggested having dinner at Mukhtarya, a place known for its famous beef bihari boti. Interestingly, a while ago at the office, we were considering going there, but someone who lived nearby advised against it, saying it wasn’t that great. However, since the restaurant has a big reputation, I agreed to the plan. We headed to Mukhtarya, which was about 20 km from the meetup spot at Nagan. The journey was fun as we were on heavy bikes, owned by some of my friends. We arrived around 11:30, and it was a quieter time as the busy hours are usually between 7 to 10 PM.
Mukhtarya in Orangi Town had three seating areas, one for families and the other two for men only. The seating was decent. Since we arrived late, much of the food was already finished, but the service was excellent, and the staff were cooperative. We first ordered one plate of beef bihari kabab and boti with kachoris. It was my first time trying beef boti and kabab with kachoris, as usually, these dishes are eaten with parathas. However, this place is famous for its kachori and kabab combination. After some time, we found out the kababs had run out, so they served two plates of boti instead. The first bite was amazing—beef boti with kachori and delicious chutney. The flavor was distinct and enjoyable, unlike other places' beef boti. We quickly ordered two more plates as one wasn’t enough.
The only issue was that the cold drinks weren’t chilled, which bothered me a bit because I prefer my drinks cold. Apart from that, everything was great, and we enjoyed the food thoroughly. The total bill came to around 2700, which was reasonable. The friend who had suggested Mukhtarya had mixed feelings, saying that while the food was good, it wasn’t so special that he would come all the way here again just for it. I, on the other hand, enjoyed it enough that I wouldn’t mind coming back if someone suggested it.
After Mukhtarya, one of the friends felt like having something sweet, so on the way back, we stopped at Dilpasand, known for its desserts like faluda, rabri, and kheer. We had kheer and rabri faluda, and after that, we all headed home. I reached home around 2 AM. So, it was a busy but enjoyable day!
