Most of them don't know what to answer, some feel embarrassed, others look questioning, others don't really understand what purpose is.

Not knowing what answer to give given our age is normal, we want to have a very quick, very brief understanding of life and this is related to our sense of immediacy, I feel that this frustration arises from having wisdom and having youth, but generally these things don't go together, so you have to take it a little more calmly.

Understanding and knowing how to answer this question, about what your purpose is, is interesting because we immediately imagine something very great, right, as if our purpose was to transform the lives of millions of people, to make a revolution in our country or in our city and in It's actually understandable to think that, because this topic of purpose has been romanticized, but if everyone had to do something so gigantic, it wouldn't make sense.

It is about understanding that purpose is much more related to something internal, something of our essence, something of our soul and another very important point about purpose is that in the same way that it does not have to be something great, it does not have to be related to your work, that is also one of the things that are related to the anxiety that this question generates, sometimes we ask ourselves does my work have meaning, why do I no longer feel that it has a purpose? I am only going to receive a salary , I have my happy days, but not every day, I see people who are much happier than me in my work and every day it seems that everything goes well, while in my case there are days when nothing goes well, sometimes there are something good, but it is not my purpose.

So let's say that purpose is not just work, it is important that work is one of the arms, our passion, one of the paths in which your purpose can manifest, but it does not have to be exactly linked to work. We did not come to this life just to have a good job, to pay the bills to have a house on the beach or in the countryside, our life is much more than that.

Looking for a clearer example of this, I remembered a movie called Soul, which is from Disney, which came out a few years ago and is a very good movie that talks mainly about positive psychology, but in a certain way it also presents a little of the character's purpose.

I am not going to tell everything clearly, the complete story for people who have not seen it, but bringing here a summary, the main character at the moment when he manages to find some of the issues that are his, his essence, the things from when he was little, during his childhood, it is as if something inside him woke up and said “this is it”, “life Maybe it is about this”, not necessarily about the purpose the purpose, it was not necessarily his job, not necessarily It was something he found with his friends but something that was part of his essence, since he was little.

Recently, an aunt of mine when we were talking about purpose said that for her purpose is an act of service, it is an attitude of being useful to our neighbors and I totally agree, life is no longer something that involves only looking at our navel. to then look at the other, there is always a function that benefits others and mainly ourselves when it is returned to us; which unites us to think that we all come to seek evolution, to seek our personal improvement and that will also depend on what we manage to do for our neighbors, in the end if you think about it all professions have a function of helping others, whether doctor, firefighter or teacher.
