Cold coffee and a view

Cold coffee and one hell of a view on a hot and sunny day? Sign me up!

My past 2 months have been a travel bonanza, a buffet of tasks arranged in different parts of the city; from the heart of Dhaka to its outskirts. I've been on the run for quite a while now, taking a breather at this point just isn't an option. Whether it be me acting as the errand boy for my own project, or an assigned task outsourced by a different company, I'm taking almost every offer that comes my way.

So, as I tread through every nook and cranny of this congested city and its outskirts, every now and then I am discovering a few "hidden gems" here and there.

And I really used to think that I know this city like the back of my hand, I guess not?

Bangladesh may be a small country, and Dhaka a much smaller city; yet, this city will forever remain a mystery. Regardless of your age, and no matter how familiar you think you are with these streets, this city always has some tricks up its sleeves, always one step ahead.

The other day when I was in Faridpur for some voluntary work, I stumbled upon this gem of a restaurant, the riVera Lounge & Cafe.

It was around 1PM and I wanted to have some lunch, right then and there my cousin suggested this place. It was actually a few kilometers away from our workplace, but he said it would be worth the trip.

So, we both packed our bags and were on our way for a little lunch break.

Lo and behold, after a 10 minute rickshaw ride, we found ourselves here.

It was a completely empty restaurant that was surrounded by a lot of green and blue. It was on a Saturday too, so you'd think such restaurants would be completely packed.

Fortunately, only 2 tables were occupied. So, we went ahead and picked the table by the window. I would've loved to take a sit in the outdoor area, just by the river, but the scorching heat was just too menacing. So, it would be sensible of us to stay indoors, right under the AC.

After we got there I started looking for something cool and refreshing, something to beat the heat. So, it was a cold chocolate coffee for me, and my cousin went for a hot black coffee. I don't know how he does it, but hot coffee when the temperatures are hovering around 40°C? That's a big no for me.

This restaurant's location really couldn't have been any better.

I don't know if the owner rented the place, leased it, or if it was on their own land, I even asked the staff, but they were just as clueless as I was.

If this place was around 3 to 5 kilometers from my house, then I'd come here at least twice a week. It's just so peaceful. But, my mind would surely change if this place was packed to the teeth, then it wouldn't fall under the peaceful category by any means haha.

Yet, you can't deny that the location and the view here is just one of a kind. And since I'm a "city boy", I don't really have access to restaurants with such an amazing view. Even if the food was bad, I'd still come here; maybe read a book, have a little conversation with someone, click some more photos.

And hey, the cold coffee wasn't bad though. So, I'd probably come here and order the same cold coffee, then just sip for as long as I could, just so they don't kick me out for being a freeloader lol.

Soon I'll be back in Faridpur again, and maybe I'll drop by once more, just for the view.

If you're someone who loves a bit of mystery and can disregard all the noise and chaos, then you just might end up liking Dhaka, and Bangladesh itself.

And I really used to think that I know this city like the back of my hand, I guess not?

You thought wrong 😁.

It's such a pretty place to be judging from the photos. I love cafes or restaurants that are bordered or surrounded by a lake or river with a fine natural scenery.

I think places like this are usually peaceful; never crowded. A perfect spot to sip on something nice and think productively.

This rarely happens, out of the ordinary it is. 🤔

I love cafes or restaurants that are bordered or surrounded by a lake or river with a fine natural scenery.

Those are the best kind, right? Add a little bit of rain to it, and voila! Nothing beats such an experience.

A perfect spot to sip on something nice and think productively.

A perfect place to just sit, think and clear your head, maybe have a little conversation with someone, or read a book even. These spots are very rare in the midst of the city, that is why I always quite effortlessly fall in love with such spots.

Nothing! There's this tiktok account I follow that displays sceneries like what you've described here. It always gives me story or poetry inspirations. Hehehe

maybe have a little conversation with someone, or read a book even.

Definitely opting for the "read a book" option.

Poetically alluring weather and content, eh. 🤔

Definitely opting for the "read a book" option.

The most peaceful option it is; of course, along with a cup of coffee. ☮️☕️
