Genus Leucaena

Leucaena is a group of plants belonging to the Fabaceae family. This plant is generally known as the lead tree or wild tamarind and is a plant native to tropical and subtropical regions throughout the world. One of the best-known species in the Genus Leucaena is Leucaena leucocephala, also known as white leadtree or white popinac. This species is widely cultivated because of its rapid growth, ability to fix nitrogen in the soil, and high protein content in its leaves. These qualities make Leucaena leucocephala valuable plants for reforestation, erosion control, and animal feed, etc.

Plants of the Genus Leucaena are characterized by bipinnate leaves, which are divided into small leaflets so that they look like feathers. The flowers of these plants are usually small and white or pale pink in color, arranged in clusters at the ends of the branches. The fruits of the Genus Leucaena are long pods that contains seeds.
