Another New, and Better Job!

So I recently quit my job with NatCen. It was interesting and aspects of it were even enjoyable for 5 months, but at the end of the day it was paying just over minimum wage, which is pretty insulting, so I got to looking for another job around 2 months ago.

I found one, interviewing people about their housing needs with local councils, contracted out to a private company so I could be working all over the country.

The work is much better paid than with NatCen, primarily because it's hourly, rather than payment per interview.

I also get paid well above minimum wage for just driving, and in fact if people say no I get paid the same amount as if people say yes to the interviews, obviously you still have to get interviews, but the targets are quite easy, this job has realistic targets, the last one doesn't.

I'm working with another woman, and we get on, which is necessary, and she's very relaxed going forwards about whether we work as a pair or split off, what we do will depend on the areas and clients.

I've only been at the job for one whole day, and it's freelance so they are happy with me working one week on, one week off, which is fine, although actually it's Monday PM to Thursday late morning, so it's really only four days a week, which includes travel, and travel is paid.

Today I spent the day driving around beautiful countryside having short chats with people about their housing needs, it's so much better than my previous job!

And they've put me up in a really swanky hotel. The woman I'm working with complained recently about Travel Lodges, which can be scummy, so they've put me up a nice one.

It has a bath! Gets my vote!

None of the ones I've stayed in recently have! You must be paying premium rate!

That is good to hear that you got a job above minimum wage. What is the minimum wage if I may ask?

I'm not sure I hadn't even noticed! Maybe you just have better line artists in Finland!

Congratulations on your job.
There is nothing as relaxing as loving your new job. The fact you even get time to rest amidst the other benefits is great.

Having a colleague you get along with will make it so easy to flow with the job. Congratulations once again☺️

I'm starting to do some subcontract IT work with a friend who has been farming out work for almost 30 years. He can't afford to put me on salary. However, he can afford to pay me far above minimum wage when he needs work done. I think most jobs should be that way.

It has given me the idea to look for other IT service providers who may need temporary workers from time to time. And maybe a weekend gig somewhere to keep me busy on weekends.

I've got a similar deal with an old mate of mine, working with people you know occasionally is a good way to go for sure!

I think it works when it's transactional. If they become the boss, it gets odd. I'll make it a point to dodge being on salary.
