A belated MOT...!

So I got my car MOT'd today. It passed, no problem, which was no surprise given that I had it serviced about a month ago, and that included a basic health check, which basically confirmed it WOULD pass and MOT.

However this time it was more of a relief than usual as I'd accidentally let the last one run out.

Normally I'm very on top of these things, well actually I was on top of this, I just got my month wrong... somehow I'd convinced myself the MOT was due in late October rather than late September, the date I had in my head was 'early 20s', so it was on my radar to get it booked in this weekend just gone.

However on booking I realised the last MOT was actually expired on the 27th September!

OOPS!

I may or may not have done some driving during that period, but having found out it wasn't MOTd, I made sure I didn't drive until this morning when I drove it to a pre-booked MOT, which is legal, but just without insurance, because no doubt there's a clause in that which says no pay-out if you have an accident sans MOT.

I further realised it wasn't taxed.

Under British road regulations you still have to tax your car even if you don't pay road tax, which I don't because of the low emissions rating, but anyway, it hasn't been taxed since the MOT ran out, basically!

Anyways, thankfully I got to the test centre sans accident and then was able to tax it immediately outside the garage, they uploaded the MOT cert. promptly, which was good...

Don't rely on anyone else for reminders...

I'm kind of surprised I didn't get any reminders about this, you would have thought the guys at the service centre would have told me my MOT was due in 2 weeks!

And no emails either, I'm sure I used to get reminders about this shit.

Anyways, next year, the renewal date is late September, I can keep the 8th October as the renewal date for 2026 as long as I get the MOT within a month of the day of the previous test.

Final thoughts....

I mean I knew the car was road legal anyway from the health check, but thankfully no one crashed into me today!

That would have been extremely shit had that happened!

Here, it is done every two years. It is hold by a private company and cost much every year, not supposing your car has any problem.

How much is it to get a test? The test here is only around £50 or $70.
