  1. Decentralized Brave Browser Tops Chrome in Google Play Rankings in Japan - Brave had 2 million downloads, whereas Firefox only had 553,000. On the current chart, Brave is ranked at 11, and Chrome is ranked 49.

  2. Shareholders vs. stakeholders - As a result of the business roundtable statement that corporate officers should consider non-shareholder stakeholders in their planning, the business news media has been flooded with articles declaring the end of a paradigm. The market, however, shrugged it off. On one hand, the article notes that the business roundtable has put "a seat at the table" in every business for activist pressure groups, but on the other hand, companies with a purpose may be more profitable, in which case, putting the stakeholders first is putting the shareholders first. The article concludes that we'll have to wait to see the results, and that there may be a continuum where some firms would be helped by following the new paradigms, and others would be harmed.

  3. Jack Ma — the most flamboyant tech founder on the planet and China's richest man — steps down from his $460 billion Alibaba empire after 20 years - Ma started Alibaba in 1999 with 17 other people, and his net worth is now estimated at $40 billion. As he steps down from his CEO role, his goodbye party will take place in a Hangzhou stadium with 80,000 seats, and his replacement will be Daniel Zhang. Ma will still have a position in the Alibaba Partnership, which is a 38 member group that plays an indirect role in governance for Alibaba.

  4. 50 states and territories launch massive joint probe into Google - As anticipated in Curating the Internet: Business, leadership, and management micro-summaries for September 8, 2019, a bipartisan alliance of state Attorneys General has announced an investigation into Google. All states are included, except for California and Alabama. Other entities include Washington, DC, and Puerto Rico. The effort is being led by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton. Utah Attorney General Sean Reyes said that the effort is being launched in response to "the pervasiveness of complaints", and Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody added concerns about user privacy. Google and other tech companies also find themselves under ongoing scrutiny from the US Justice Department, the US Congress, and the European Union. h/t OS news

  5. STEEM Why You Shouldn’t Let Your Job Define Who You Are - In this short article, @ioanasolea argues that a job is what we do to survive, but it should be just one aspect of a multidimensional life. The essay also suggests that hyperfocusing on one's job can damage relationships with family and friends, and that we have a duty to also engage in the things that we enjoy doing on a personal level. (A beneficiary setting of 10% has been applied to this post for @ioanasolea.)
